Cass, New Zealand
Cass is a locality in the Selwyn District of the Canterbury region in New Zealand's South Island. It is named for Thomas Cass, an important pioneer surveyor in the area. State Highway 73 passes near the town, and the Midland Line between Christchurch and the West Coast was opened to the town in 1910, with the full line opened in 1923 when the Otira Tunnel was completed. Since November 1987, the world-famous TranzAlpine passenger train has run through the town.

The Hawdon River is a river of New Zealand. One of the headwaters of Canterbury's Waimakariri River, it flows south through Arthur's Pass National Park, reaching the Waimakariri to the north of the settlement of Cass.
Cass River (Selwyn District)
The Cass River is an alpine river in the Canterbury Region of the South Island of New Zealand. It rises near the Cass Saddle in the Cragieburn Forest Park and flows generally northeast alongshide the Cragieburn Range before turning north to meet the Waimakariri River. State Highway 73 and the Midland Line both cross the lower reaches of the river near a farming locality named Cass.
