Woudrichem
Woudrichem is a municipality and a city in the south of the Netherlands.
Boven Merwede
The Boven Merwede is a stretch of river in the Netherlands. The Afgedamde Maas river joins the Waal at Woudrichem to form the Boven Merwede, which at Hardinxveld-Giessendam splits into the Beneden Merwede river on the right and the Nieuwe Merwede river on the left. Its length is 8.8 km. The Merwede is part of the main shipping route between Rotterdam and Germany. There is a road bridge, from the west side of Gorinchem on the north to the west side of Sleeuwijk on the south.
Afgedamde Maas
The Afgedamde Maas is a former distributary of the Maas River in the Dutch province of North Brabant. The Maas splits near Heusden with one channel flowing north until its confluence with the river Waal (the main distributary of the river Rhine) to form the Merwede, while the other continues west as the main distributary of the Maas.

For the WWII war hero, see Martin Linge. For the boat designer, see Jan Herman Linge. For Hitler's valet, see Heinz Linge. For the fictional CIA agent, see Malko Linge. The Linge is a river in the Betuwe that is 99.8 km long, which makes it one of the longest rivers that flow entirely within the Netherlands. It starts near the village Doornenburg near the German border. A legend tells us that if there will be no more pigs grazing at the castle of Doornenburg, the river will dry out.
Loevestein
Castle Loevestein (Slot Loevestein in Dutch) is a medieval castle built by the knight Dirc Loef van Horne (hence "Loef's stein" house) between 1357 and 1397. Until the Second World War Loevestein Castle was part of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie, the main Dutch defense line that was based on flooding an area of land south and east of the western provinces. Currently the castle is used as a medieval museum and function centre.
Mediumwave transmitter Lopik
The Mediumwave transmitter Lopik is a medium wave broadcasting facility near Lopik in the Netherlands. It works on 675 kHz and uses as aerial a 196 metre high guyed steel framework mast, which was built in 1938 and which is insulated against ground. Until April 21, 2004 there was a smaller guyed steel framework mast for the mediumwave frequency 1332 kHz. This mast should not be confused with the nearby Gerbrandy tower, which is used for FM- and TV-broadcasting.
Vreeswijk
Vreeswijk is a former village and municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The municipality merged with Jutphaas in 1971, and is now the southern half of the town of Nieuwegein. The former village was located on the Lek River, near where it is crossed by the Merwede Canal. The old village centre around the locks has been preserved reasonably well. This lock is said to be the oldest example of a pound lock in Europe.

Meerkerk is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zederik, and lies about 9 km north of Gorinchem. In 2001, the town of Meerkerk had 2281 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.71 km², and contained 818 residences. The statistical area "Meerkerk", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 2310.
Ameide
Ameide is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zederik, and lies about 9 km southwest of IJsselstein. Ameide received city rights in the 14th century. Ameide was a separate municipality until 1986, when it became part of Zederik. In 2001, the village of Ameide had 3087 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.58 km², and contained 1083 residences.
Hei- en Boeicop
Hei- en Boeicop is a small village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zederik, and lies about 9 km south of IJsselstein. The statistical area "Hei- en Boeicop", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 940. The village consists of a long row of houses on two sides of a small canal. The canal separates the Polder Boeicop to the north from the Polder Heicop to the south.
Leerbroek
Leerbroek is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zederik, and lies about 9 km northeast of Gorinchem. In 2004, the village of Leerbroek had 1560 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.096 km, and contained 197 residences. The statistical area "Leerbroek", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 980.
Lexmond
Lexmond is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zederik, and lies about 7 km south of IJsselstein. In 2001, the town of Lexmond had 1296 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.24 km², and contained 518 residences. The statistical area "Lexmond", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1780. Lexmond was a separate municipality until 1986, when it became part of Zederik.
Achterdijk, South Holland
Achterdijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zederik, and lies about 7 km northeast of Gorinchem. The statistical area "Achterdijk", which consists of the hamlet and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 210. The name of the hamlet means "Back Dike"; it refers to the dike between Leerdam and Arkel.
Tienhoven, South Holland
Tienhoven is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zederik, and lies about 10 km southwest of IJsselstein. The statistical area "Tienhoven", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 230. Tienhoven was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1986, when it became part of Zederik.
Hoogblokland
Hoogblokland is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Giessenlanden, and lies about 4 km north of Gorinchem. In 2001, the village of Hoogblokland had 935 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.25 km², and contained 372 residences. The statistical area "Hoogblokland", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1100.
Dalem, Netherlands
Dalem is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located in the municipality of Gorinchem, about 2 km east of the city. Dalem was a separate municipality until 1818, when it was renamed to "Vuren", the name of the other village in the municipality. The village was part of the province of Gelderland until 1986, when the municipality of Vuren ceased to exist, and Dalem became part of Gorinchem, thereby becoming part of the province of South Holland.
Vijfheerenlanden
Vijfheerenlanden, literally "land with five Lords" is an area in the provinces of South Holland and (since 2002) Utrecht in the Netherlands. The area also borders on two other Dutch provinces: Gelderland to the east, and North Brabant to the south. On its western border is the Alblasserwaard, an area in South Holland, and on its eastern border the Tielerwaard, an area in Gelderland.
Rijswijk, North Brabant
Rijswijk is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Woudrichem, about 5 km southeast of Gorinchem. It has about 1,720 inhabitants. Rijswijk was a separate municipality until 1973, when it became part of Woudrichem.
Kedichem
Kedichem is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 7 km northeast of the city of Gorinchem, in the municipality of Leerdam. Kedichem was a separate municipality until 1986, when it merged with Leerdam. In the same year Kedichem became nationally known in The Netherlands when extreme leftwing activists burned down a hotel there to prevent a joined meeting of the nationalist Centre Party and Centre Democrats parties, causing a number of injuries.
Nederslingeland
Nederslingeland is a polder in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 5km northwest of the city of Gorinchem. The hamlet Pinkeveer is located in the polder. Nederslingeland was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1857, when it became part of Peursum.
Schoonrewoerd
Schoonrewoerd is a village in the western Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Leerdam, South Holland, about 25 km south of Utrecht. Leerdammer cheese is produced in Schoonrewoerd. It was a separate municipality until 1986, when it became part of Leerdam.
't Zand, Werkendam
't Zand is a hamlet in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Werkendam, on the southeastern edge of the village of Sleeuwijk.
Anna van Rijn College
Anna van Rijn College is a secondary school in the village of Nieuwegein. The school consists out of three different entities at three different locations teaching all forms of Dutch secondary education. The current director is drs. A.G. Popma.
Solo (restaurant)
Solo is a restaurant in Gorichem, Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star for the period 2007-2012. GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 16 out of 20 points. Head chef of Solo is Mohammed el Harouchi. The restaurant lost its star due to the severe accident of head chef El Harouchi, in which he suffered a contusion of the brain stem. There was no shock or confusion among staff, as everybody expected to loose the star due to the long absence of the head chef.
De Gieser Wildeman
De Gieser Wildeman is a restaurant in Noordeloos, Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star for the period 2006–present. The choice of name was inspired by two things: the River Giessen, flowing past the restaurant, and the Gieser Wildeman, a type of culinary pear and one of the favourite dishes of the head chef. GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 15 out of 20 points. Head chef of De Gieser Wildeman is René Tichelaar.
