The statistical district Zaandam, which covers the city and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 72.597. Zaandam was a separate municipality until 1974, when it became a part of the new municipality of Zaanstad.

Wormer is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Wormerland, and lies about 13 km northwest of Amsterdam. In 2006, the town of Wormer had 12566 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town is 16.88 km² . The town is situated in the Zaan district, on the eastern side of the river Zaan, across from Wormerveer. The town is surrounded by the nature area Wormer- en Jisperveld.
Zaanse Schans
Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk in the municipality of Zaanstad in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses; the ca. 35 houses from all over the Zaanstreek were moved to the museum area in the 1970s. The Zaans Museum, established in 1994, is located in the Zaanse Schans.
Wormer- en Jisperveld
The Wormer- en Jisperveld is a nature area, covering 18 km² (of which 0.7 km² are a protected area), situated between the towns De Rijp, Purmerend en Wormerveer. The area consists mainly of marshland, grassland and open water.
Zaan
The Zaan is a small river in the province of North-Holland in The Netherlands and the name of the district through which it runs. The river was originally a side arm of the IJ bay and travels 10 kilometers through the municipality of Zaanstad ("Zaan City") north of Amsterdam, from West-Knollendam in the north to Zaandam in the south, where it empties into the IJ.

Wijdewormer is a hamlet in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is located in the municipality of Wormerland, about 5 km east of the town of Wormer, in the polder "De Wijde Wormer". Wijdewormer was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1991, when it became a part of Wormerland.
Czar Peter House (Netherlands)
The Czar Peter House is a historical building in Zaandam, the Netherlands. It is best known as the place where Czar Peter I of Russia resided in 1697 during his Grand Embassy. The building was constructed in 1632. Peter had met the Zaandam blacksmith and craftsman Gerrit Kist when Kist had worked for the czar in Moscow.

Zaandam Kogerveld is a railway station located in Zaandam, the Netherlands. The station opened in 1989 on the Zaandam–Enkhuizen railway. The station is 2 km north of Zaandam railway station, and is in the Kogerveld estate. This station is a suburb station of Zaandam. Other estates nearby are Hoornseveld and 't Kalf. Residents from Koog aan de Zaan also use this station for Purmerend and Hoorn.
Coen Tunnel
The Coen Tunnel (1966) is a tunnel under the North Sea Canal in western Amsterdam. The tunnel is named after the Coen port in the vicinity which was named after Jan Pieterszoon Coen. The tunnel itself is 1283 metres long of which 587 metres are fully covered. The tunnel connects the Zaan district with the western part of Amsterdam. The tunnel reaches a maximum depth of 22 metres.
Second Coen Tunnel
The Second Coen Tunnel is a tunnel under the North Sea Canal, next to the existing Coen Tunnel in Amsterdam, currently under construction. The tunnel will be built in combination with a new highway connection, the Westrandweg, to the A5 motorway. The tunnel will consist of 3 fixed lanes and two variable lanes which will be opened in the direction which traffic is the heaviest.
Port of Amsterdam
The Port of Amsterdam (Dutch: Haven van Amsterdam) is a seaport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The port is located on the bank of a former bay named the IJ and the North Sea Canal, with which it is connected to the North Sea. The port was first used in the 13th century and was one of the main ports of the Dutch East India Company in the 17th century. Today, the Port of Amsterdam is the second largest port in the Netherlands, the largest being the Port of Rotterdam.
De Kat, Zaandam
De Kat is the only remaining working windmill in the world which makes paint. The mill is in the Zaanse Schans, Zaanstad. The original mill 'De Kat' was built in 1646 as an oil mill. In 1782 the mill was destroyed by fire but the mill was rapidly rebuilt again. The mill was in use until 1904 and then was partially demolished. In 1960 the eight-sided paint mill 'De Duinjager' was removed from its former position owing to urban development and placed on top of the old storehouse of 'De Kat'.
De Huisman, Zaandam
De Huisman is a small octagonal mill at the Zaanse Schans in the Zaanstad, and currently makes mustard. 'De Huisman' has been located on the Zaanse Schanse since 1955, next to the warehouse 'De Haan'. The mill was probably built in 1786 on the Blue Path (now Rue Claude Monet) in Zaandam. The mill has functioned as a snuff mill (milling tobacco), a mustard mill, and a saw mill.
De Os, Zaandam
De Os is an oil windmill in the Zaanse Schans, Zaanstad. Between the saw mills Het Jonge Schaap and Het Klaverblad is the hull of the oil mill De Os. The mill was built in 1663 and is one of the oldest industrial windmills in the Zaan. Until 1916 the mill was operating on wind power. In that year, hood, and wings were removed; the Os was converted a warehouse. The barns are now occupied by the mill. The mill body was restored in recent years.
De Zoeker, Zaandam
De Zoeker (The Seeker) is the name of an oil windmill, located in the Zaanse Schans, Zaanstad. Its purpose is to press seeds such as linseed and rapeseed into vegetable oil. It is the only oil mill still in operation, and is one of five remaining oil mills in the area. The mill was built in 1672 in Zaandijk. The mill continued with few interruptions until 1968, when it was moved to the Schans. The mill is owned by the Vereniging De Zaansche Molen.
De Gekroonde Poelenburg, Zaandam
De Gekroonde Poelenburg (English: The Crowned Poelenburg) is a paltrok mill in Zaandam, Noord Holland, Netherlands which has been restored to working order. As all Dutch paltrok mills it is a windpowered sawmill. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 40093. It is located at the Zaanse Schans in a group of several historic industrial windmills.
Het Jonge Schaap, Zaandam
Het Jonge Schaap (The young sheep) is the name of a wooden wind powered sawmill, located in the Zaanse Schans, in the municipality of Zaanstad. The original mill was built in 1680 and demolished in 1942. Between 2005 and 2007, a replica of the mill at the Zaanse Schans, between the mills “De Zoeker” and “De Bonte Hen”. The construction of the replica was based on detailed drawings Anton Sipman had made before the original mill was demolished. \t\t \t\t\tHet Jonge Schaap.
Het Klaverblad, Zaandam
Het Klaverblad (The Cloverleaf) is a small wooden saw mill, located in the Zaanse Schans, in the municipality of Zaanstad. The mill was built by Ru Pos on the site of the previous KROMO warehouse. This private initiative was turned into foundation "Het Klaverblad" with the purpose of building, running and maintaining the sawmill. The sails of the mill first turned in 2005.
De Bonte Hen, Zaandam
De Bonte Hen (The Spotted Hen) is the name of an oil mill, located in the Zaanse Schans, in the municipality of Zaanstad. De Bonte Hen is the northernmost of the mill Schans. The original mill was built in 1693. Until 1935 the mill was preserved in its original state. This year the mill was rebuild. In 1975, the restoration of the mill was accomplished. Since then, the mill weekly on a voluntary basis into service.
HMS Elfin (1933)
HMS Elfin was a torpedo recovery vessel built for the Royal Navy. She was built by J. Samuel White & Company, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, was launched on 20 November 1933 and commissioned on 16 January 1934. She was builder's number 1754. Her home port was the Navy's torpedo trials establishment HMS Vernon, and she was based at Portland. A sistership, Redwing, was constructed under builder's number 1753 and was stationed at HMS Defiance, Devonport.

De Held Jozua (English: The Hero Joshua) is a paltrok mill in Zaandam, Noord Holland, Netherlands which has been restored to working order. As all Dutch paltrok mills it is a windpowered sawmill. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 40094.
