Edam, North Holland
Edam is a city in the northwest Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Combined with Volendam, Edam forms the municipality of Edam-Volendam. Approximately 7,380 people live in Edam. The entire municipality of Edam-Volendam has 28,492 inhabitants. The name Edam originates from a dam on the little river E or IJe where the first settlement was located and which was therefore called IJedam. Edam is famous as the original source of the cheese with the same name.
Hoorn
Hoorn is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is located on the IJsselmeer, 35 kilometres north of Amsterdam, and acquired city rights in 1357. Hoorn has 70,196 inhabitants . The area of the municipality is 52.49 km² (32.62 km² consists of water, mainly the Markermeer), and consists of the following villages and/or districts: Blokker, Hoorn, Zwaag, and parts of Bangert and De Hulk.
Purmerend
Purmerend is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The city is surrounded by polders, such as the Purmer, Beemster and the Wormer. The city became the trade center of the region but the population grew relatively slowly. Only after 1960 did the population start to grow from around 10.000 to the current 78.307 people (1 November 2007). From the 1960s onwards, Purmerend has seen major expansions and still continues to do so until the present date.
Marken
Marken is a peninsula in the Markermeer, in the Netherlands and a former island in the Zuiderzee, located in the municipality Waterland in the province North Holland. It is the namesake of the Markermeer, the body of water which surrounds it. The former island is nowadays connected to the North Holland mainland by a causeway. Also, Marken is a well-known tourist attraction, well known for its characteristic wooden houses.
Monnickendam
Monnickendam (usually Monnikendam in English) is a city in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 8 km southeast of Purmerend. It received city rights in 1355 and suffered a lot of damage during the fires of 1500 and 1513. Monnikendam was also the name of a number of warships - mainly built at the port of that name - during the Anglo-Dutch Wars.
Schellinkhout
Schellinkhout is a very small town located in the municipality of Drechterland, North Holland at the border of the IJsselmeer, about 3 km southeast of Hoorn in West-Frisia. Ransdorp is a part of the stadsdeel (borough) Amsterdam-Noord. The village has about 245 inhabitants. Ransdorp was a separate municipality until 1921. The village covered the villages of Ransdorp, Durgerdam, Holysloot, and Schellingwoude. Ransdorp was visited by the American reality television show The Amazing Race 12 (2007).

Kras Stadion is a multi-purpose stadium in Volendam, Netherlands. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of FC Volendam. The stadium is able to hold 6,984 people and was built in 1975.

Scharwoude is a former municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland. It existed between 1812 and 1817, when it was divided into two municipalities: Noord-Scharwoude and Zuid-Scharwoude.
Den Ilp
Den Ilp (is a village in the municipality of Landsmeer, North Holland, the Netherlands. Its shape is nearly vertical, and is mostly shaped around a single road of the same name, with two roads branching off westward halfway along Den Ilp. Den Ilp itself is characterised as a narrow road flanked by ditches with individual bridges leading to separate houses. The village's population was 809 as of January 2007. It is a recent addition to the municipality.
Purmerland
Purmerland is a hamlet of 395 (January 2007) in the municipality of Landsmeer, North Holland, the Netherlands. It is located just north of Den Ilp and just south of the housing estate of Weidevenne, part of the city of Purmerend. It is directly connected to both of these as Purmerland, like Den Ilp and Landsmeer is mainly characterised by ribbon building along the main road.

Westfries Museum
The Westfries Museum is a museum of regional history established in the Dutch city of Hoorn. It was opened on 10 January 1880 and has been established in a monumental building dating to 1632. This building originally belonged to the Gecommitteerde Raden van West-Friesland en het Noorderkwartier, as a part of the Staten van Holland en West-Friesland, and later became a court. Until 1932 part of the building housed the kanton's court and part its museum.
Weidevenne
Weidevenne is a district of Purmerend in the Netherlands, west of the Noordhollandsch Kanaal (North Holland Canal) across from the De Gors district. Its 14,451 inhabitants (as of 1-1-2007) mainly live in terraced houses. The population of Purmerend is expected to grow to 90,000, mainly due to the continuing expansion of Weidevenne. In November 2007 the district celebrated its tenth anniversary.
IJmeer
The IJmeer is a bordering lake in the Netherlands. It lies between the polder De Nes, Pampushaven, Hollandse Brug and the mouth of the IJ in IJburg, straddling the provinces of North Holland and Flevoland. It is an important habitat for birds such as the Tufted Duck and Scaup. To the north-east is the Markermeer, south-east is the Gooimeer.
Purmer
Purmer is a polder and reclaimed lake in the Netherlands province of North Holland, located between the towns of Purmerend and Edam-Volendam. Windmill reclamation activity began in 1618. Hydraulic engineer Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater also had stakes in the reclamation, although he was not directly involved in the project itself. In 1622 all 26.8 km² (10.3 sq mi) were clear of water. The original lake of Purmer formed part of a small number of landlocked minor seas located in North Holland.

De Oude Rosmolen
De Oude Rosmolen is a former restaurant located in Hoorn in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin stars in the period 1986-1989 and two Michelin stars is the period 1990-2000. The head chef was Constant Fonk. The restaurant was located in a 17th century building that once contained a bakery with its own mill. The mill was driven by a horse, which gave the building its name "Rosmolen" .
Volendam New Year's fire
The Volendam New Year's fire was a café fire in the Dutch town of Volendam in the 2000-2001 New Year's night. The fire began early on New Year's Day 2001 and caused the death of 14 young people. There were in all 241 people admitted to hospital, 200 of which suffered serious burns.
Nieuwe Toren, Kampen
The Nieuwe Toren (New Tower) is located at the Oudestraat in the city of Kampen. This Carillon tower was built in the period between 1649-1664 partly according to a design by Philips Vingboons. The lower brick-built part was erected by the Edam mill maker (Master carpenter) Dirck Janzn. The design for the lantern was made by Philips Vingboons, which may have originally been intended for the Town hall now the Royal Palace of Amsterdam.
Koornmarktpoort
The Koornmarktspoort is city gate in Kampen, Overijssel, the Netherlands. It was originally part of the city wall and is the oldest of the Kampen city gates.
