Ezinge
Ezinge is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Winsum, about 15 km northwest of the city of Groningen. Ezinge is the oldest, constantly inhabited village in The Netherlands and is in archeological context referred to as "the Pompeii of the North" Ezinge was a separate municipality until 1990, when it was merged with Winsum.
Dingen, Groningen
De Dingen is a former hamlet in the Dutch province of Groningen. It was located about 1 km south of Baflo. According to the 18th century historian A.J. van der Aa, the hamlet consisted of four farms, stretching from east to west. There used to be a fortified house here, called "Dingen" or "De Dingen". The farms still exist, and are still called Dingen; but they are no longer considered to be a separate settlement on the newest topogrphical map of the area.
Winsum train disaster
The Winsum train disaster took place on 25 July 1980 near Winsum in the Dutch province of Groningen. 9 people died and 21 were injured. The accident took place on a single track between Sauwerd and Roodeschool which did not have ATB or signals, instead the drivers were informed by radio where other trains on the tracks were, which was a less reliable system that relied on trust. In the early foggy morning of 25 July the driver of commuter train 8726 departed from Winsum railway station.
