It lies approximately halfway between the cities of Leeuwarden (the capital of Friesland) and Groningen, in the northern part of the municipality of Achtkarspelen. With 5,765 inhabitants, Buitenpost is the second largest settlement in the municipality.

The Protestant church of Augustinusga or Saint Augustine’s church is a religious building in Augustinusga, Netherlands, one of the medieval churches in Friesland. The church was built in the 15th century and has a tower that dates from the 13th century, built out of brick. The building was once a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Augustine, becoming a Protestant church after the Protestant Reformation. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 7032. The building is located on the Geawei 15.

The Protestant church of Buitenpost is a medieval religious building in Buitenpost, Friesland, in the Netherlands. The late Gothic church with a quintuple closed choir was built in the late 15th century. The tower of the church is much older and dates from c. 1200 it was heightened in the 16th century and has a Tented roof. The monumental Pipe organ was built in 1877 by L. van Dam & Zn. It was originally a Roman Catholic church, becoming a Protestant church after the Protestant Reformation.
