Presidio, Texas
Presidio is a city in Presidio County, Texas, United States. It stands on the Rio Grande (Río Bravo del Norte), on the opposite side of the U.S. -Mexico border from Ojinaga, Chihuahua. The population was 4,167 at the 2000 census, and had increased to 4,426 as of the 2010 US census. Presidio is on the Farm to Market Road 170, and U.S. Route 67, 18 miles south of Shafter in southern Presidio County. Presidio is about 240 miles from El Paso, which is the closest major city to this town.
Presidio–Ojinaga International Bridge
The Presidio–Ojinaga International Bridge is an international bridge that crosses the Rio Grande (Río Bravo) between the cities of Presidio, Texas, and Ojinaga, Chihuahua, on the United States-Mexico border. The bridge is also known as "Presidio Bridge" and "Puente Ojinaga". The Presidio–Ojinaga International Bridge is currently privately owned, and a toll fee is charged. The bridge was completed and opened in 1985 and is two lanes wide and 791 feet long.
Presidio–Ojinaga International Rail Bridge
The Presidio–Ojinaga International Rail Bridge (also known as the Presidio Rail Bridge or the Puente Ferro Carril Ojinaga) is an international bridge that crosses the Rio Grande (Río Bravo) between the cities of Presidio, Texas, and Ojinaga, Chihuahua, on the United States-Mexico border. The Presidio–Ojinaga International Rail Bridge is currently closed. It was damaged by fire on 29 February 2008, but there are plans to repair it.
Presidio Texas Port of Entry
The Presidio Texas Port of Entry, is located at the Presidio–Ojinaga International Bridge. The original, privately owned wooden bridge was built in the early 1900s, and the port of entry was established by executive order in 1917. The bridge was most recently replaced in 1985. The current border inspection station was completed about two years later. There is also an old wooden railroad bridge at this location, but it has been closed due to damage from a fire since 2008.
