Ipoh
Ipoh is the capital city of Perak state, Malaysia. It is approximately 200 km (125 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur on the North-South Expressway. Ipoh developed into one of Malaysia's main cities around the turn of the 19th century due to the booming tin mining industry. It is at the foot of the Kledang Hill and famed for "Menglembu Peanuts" a brand of peanuts that are processed and packed by a factory situated in the town. Historically, Menglembu and the surrounding areas of the Kinta Valley were settled by Chinese of the Hakka dialect group from South China who worked in the tin mines. These townships were so populated by the Hakka people that even many of the non-Chinese people spoke Hakka.
