Biržai Castle
Biržai Castle is a castle in Biržai, Lithuania. Construction of the earth bastion-type castle started in 1586 by the order of Krzysztof Mikołaj "the Lightning" Radziwiłł. In 1575, preparing for this construction, a dam was built on the Agluona and Apaščia rivers at their confluence, and the artificial Lake Širvėna, covering about 40 km², was created. Major castle building works were finished in 1589.
Lake Širvėna
Širvėna Lake is a lake located in Biržai municipality, northern Lithuania. It is the oldest artificial lake in Lithuania. It was created in 1575 when the dam was built on rivers Agluona and Apaščia. The lake was built to protect the Radvila castle in Biržai. Now the city of Biržai, which was built around the castle, is located on the southern shore of Širvėna lake. The suburb of Astravas is built on the northern and the suburb of Rinkuškiai on the western shore.
Astravas Manor
Astravas Manor is a manor in Biržai suburb Astravas, Lithuania. It was commissioned by Jan Tyszkewicz and was built in 1849–1862 in neoclassical style by architect Tomasz Tyszecki. The damage it sustained during World War II was repaired between 1955-1962. The palace has a rich classical interior decorated with many sculptures.
