Kumamoto Castle
is a hilltop Japanese castle located in Chūō-ku, Kumamoto in Kumamoto Prefecture. It was a large and extremely well fortified castle. The castle keep is a concrete reconstruction built in 1960, but several ancillary wooden buildings remain of the original castle. Kumamoto Castle is considered one of the three premier castles in Japan, along with Himeji Castle and Matsumoto Castle. Thirteen structures in the castle complex are designated Important Cultural Property.

Kamoto District, Kumamoto was a district located in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the district had an estimated population of 31,088 and the density of 472.39 persons per square kilometer. The total area was 65.81 km².
Kumamoto Gakuen University
Called Gakuendai (学園大) or Shōdai (商大), it is a private Japanese university in Kumamoto, Japan. It was established in 1942, at which time Eastern Language Vocational College (東洋語学専門学校 Tōyō Gengo Senmon Gakkō) was subsumed into it. It was renamed Kumamoto Language Vocational College (熊本言語専門学校 Kumamoto Gengo Senmon Gakkō) in 1945, and was made into Kumamoto Commerce University (熊本商科大学 Kumamoto shōka daigaku) in 1954. It acquired its current name, Kumamoto Gakuen University, in 1994.

Kumamoto Station is the main railway terminal of the city of Kumamoto, Japan. It is located in Nishi-ku, Kumamoto, and is operated by Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu). In front of the station is a tram stop of the tram operated by Kumamoto City Transportation Bureau named Kumamoto-Ekimae Station.
Shokei College
Shokei College is a private university in Kumamoto, Kumamoto, Japan. The predecessor of the school, small girl's school, was founded in 1888, and it was chartered as a junior women's college in 1952. In 1975, Shokei University was established and the junior women's college was renamed to Shokei Junior College. In 2006, the two schools merged.

1973 Taiyo Department Store fire
The Taiyo Department Store fire was a fire at the Taiyo Department Store, a department store in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The fire started at 1:15 p.m. on November 29, 1973; 103 people died. After the fire, regulations pertaining to the construction of buildings were strengthened, one of which mandated external stairs on highrise buildings. The Taiyo Department Store had a basement floor and nine stories. Some areas were under construction.

Katō Shrine is a shrine in Kumamoto Castle, Chūō-ku, Kumamoto, Kumamoto, Japan, in which, daimyo or powerful territorial lord Katō Kiyomasa (1562–1611) is enshrined. Alongside Ōki Kaneyoshi and Kin Kan, who made junshi, are enshrined.
1889 Kumamoto earthquake
The 1889 Kumamoto earthquake was an earthquake which occurred at 23.45 p.m. July 28, 1889 in the western part of Kumamoto. It was also called the Kinpozan earthquake (or Kinbozan earthquake, since its epicenter was the southern-eastern foot of Mt. Kinpo) and its magnitude was 6.3. Twenty people died (5 in Kumamoto City and 15 in Akita Gun, Kumamoto Prefecture) and hundreds of houses and parts of Kumamoto Castle were destroyed.
Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium
Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium is an indoor sports arena, located in Kumamoto, Japan. The arena holds 1,480 people. The hall hosted some of the group games for the 2007 FIVB Women's World Cup. It will host some of the group games for the 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup.

Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art
Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art opened in the precincts of Kumamoto Castle, Kumamoto, Japan in 1976. It is one of Japan's many museums which are supported by a prefecture. The permanent collection focuses on the art and crafts of Kumamoto Prefecture and also contains works by Renoir and Rodin. One room is dedicated to replicas of decorated kofun found in the prefecture.
