Ghetto Fighters' House
The Ghetto Fighters' House, full name, Itzhak Katzenelson Holocaust and Jewish Resistance Heritage Museum, Documentation and Study Center, was founded in 1949 by members of Kibbutz Lohamei Hagetaot, a community of Holocaust survivors, among them fighters of the ghetto undergrounds and partisan units. The museum is name after Itzhak Katzenelson, a Jewish poet who died at Auschwitz. The museum is located in the Western Galilee, Israel, on the Coastal Highway between Acre (Akko) and Nahariya.
Ga'aton River
The Ga'aton River is a small river in the North District of Israel. It passes through the town of Nahariya before emptying into the Mediterranean Sea. The river runs through the main street of Nahariya, a city that takes its name from the river (nahar means river in Hebrew).
Nahariya Railway Station
Nahariya Railway Station is a railway station serving the city of Nahariya and the surrounding towns and villages of the Western Galilee region. It is the northern-most passenger station in Israel and is currently the terminus of the North-South coastal line. The station is located on Ga'aton Boulevard, Nahariya's main street along the Ga'aton River, near the main entrance to the city from the coastal highway and across the street from the city's central bus station.
Mateh Asher Regional Council
The Mateh Asher Regional Council is a regional council in the western Galilee of northern Israel. It is named after the Tribe of Asher which had been allotted the region in antiquity according to the Book of Joshua . It was founded in 1982 as a merger of three regional councils: Ga'aton, Na'aman and Sulam Tzur. The council's offices are located on Highway 4, between Regba and Lohamei HaGeta'ot.
Nes Ammim
Nes Ammim is a Christian community in the northern district of Israel. Close to the towns of Acre and Nahariya, in the western Galilee region, the community is under the jurisdiction of Matte Asher Regional Council. It was founded by European Christians as a sign of solidarity with the Jewish People after the Holocaust. Its theology emphasises the need for dialogue with Jews and also with adherents of other religions.
1979 Nahariya attack
The 1979 Nahariya attack (codenamed by its perpetrators as the Nasser Operation) was a raid by four Palestine Liberation Front (PLF) militants in Nahariya, Israel on April 22, 1979. The group, consisting of Abdel Majeed Asslan, Mhanna Salim al-Muayed, and Ahmed al-Abras, and led by 16-year-old Samir Kuntar, used a small, 55 horsepower boat to travel from Tyre, Lebanon to Israel.
Yeshivat Nahariya
Yeshivat Hesder of Nahariya known as Yeshivat Nahar Deiah, was founded in 1995 by the Chief Rabbi of Nahariya, Rabbi Yeshayahu Meitlis with 15 students. In 2010, the Yeshiva has over 100 students. The students combine intensive Torah study, service in the army, and community service. In 2001 the yeshiva founded a Relief Center to provide food and clothing to residents Nahariya and the surrounding area.
1974 Nahariya attack
The 1974 Nahariya attack was a raid by three Palestinian militants, belonging to the Fatah militant organization, which took place during the night between 24 and 25 June 1974. The Palestinian militant squad infiltrated the coastal city of Nahariya in Israel by sea from Lebanon. Three civilians and one Israeli soldier were killed during the event. The attack was the first time in which militants infiltrated into Israel from Lebanon by sea.
