Ein Karem
Ein Karem (also Ein Kerem) is an ancient village of the Jerusalem District and now a neighbourhood in southwest Jerusalem in Israel. According to Christian tradition, John the Baptist was born in Ein Karem, leading to the establishment of many churches and monasteries. In 2010 the neighborhood had a population of 2,000. It attracts three million visitors a year, one-third of them pilgrims from around the world.
Yad Kennedy
Yad Kennedy, located in the Mateh Yehuda Region near Jerusalem, Israel, is a memorial to John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, who was assassinated in Dallas, Texas in 1963. The 60-foot high memorial is shaped like the stump of a felled tree, symbolizing a life cut short. Inside is a bronze relief of Kennedy, with an eternal flame burning in the center. It is encircled by 51 concrete columns, one for each of the 50 states in the United States plus one for Washington, D.C.
Even Sapir
Even Sapir is a moshav on the outskirts of Jerusalem, Israel. It falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Yehuda Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 654. The moshav was founded in 1950 by immigrants from Kurdistan. It was named after Even Sapir, a book written in 1864 by Yaakov Halevi Sapir, a Jerusalem rabbi and emissary. The book describes his travels to Yemen in the 19th century.
Church of the Visitation
The Church of the Visitation honors the visit paid by Mary, Jesus' mother, to Elizabeth, John the Baptist's mother. This is the site where tradition tells us that Mary recited her song of praise, the Magnificat, one of the most ancient hymns to Mary. . The church is beautifully adorned with tiled representations of that canticle in many of the worlds languages.
Kiryat Menachem
Kiryat Menachem is a neighborhood in southwest Jerusalem, Israel. It is bordered by Ir Ganim to the south and east, Mount Ora to the west, and the Jerusalem Hills to the north. To the west are steep hills that descend toward streams that flow into Nahal Sorek to the north of Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital. The neighborhood overlooks the village of Ein Karem, Nahal Sorek, and the Sataf.
Monastery of St. John in the Wilderness
Monastery of St. John in the Wilderness is a Franciscan monastery built next to a spring on a wooded slope just north of Even Sapir and south of Jerusalem, Israel. The monastery celebrates the childhood wanderings of John the Baptist in this region. Born close by in Ein Karem according to tradition, Luke tells us that John "grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the desert until he appeared publicly to Israel".
Al-Jura, Jerusalem
Al-Jura was a Palestinian Arab village in the District of Jerusalem. It was depopulated during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War on July 11, 1948 under Operation Dani. It was located 8.5 km west of Jerusalem. al-Jura was mostly destroyed with the exception of several deserted houses. In 1945, the village had a population of 420. al-Jura contains artifacts from Byzantine and the Crusader period in three Khirbats: Khirbat Sa'ida, Ayn al-Jadida, and Khirbat al-Qusur.
