Carmel Hai-Bar Nature Reserve
The Carmel Hai-Bar Nature Reserve is a 1,500-acre breeding and reacclimation center administered by the Israel Nature Reserves and National Parks Authority, situated in the Carmel mountains in Northwestern Israel. The Carmel Hai-Bar is the Mediterranean climate counterpart of the Yotvata Hai-Bar Nature Reserve which operates in the desert. Endangered and extinct animals (which formerly lived in Israel) are bred here for possible reintroduction to the Mediterranean forest of Northern Israel.

Mount Carmel forest fire (1989)
The Mount Carmel forest fire was a forest fire that occurred between 19 and 22 September 1989 on Mount Carmel in northern Israel and was one of the largest forest fires in Israel, the largest being the Mount Carmel forest fire of 2010. The fire extended over 6000 dunam (1,500 acres), of which 3200 dunam (790 acres) were natural forest areas of Aleppo pine which were part of the Carmel National Park and Nature Reserve, causing considerable damage to the flora and wild life.
Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute
The Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute (RBNI) was established in January 2005 as a joint endeavour of the Russell Berrie Foundation, the government of Israel and the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. It is one of the largest academic programs in Israel and is among the largest nanotechnology centers in Europe and the US. Prof. Yeshayahu ("Ishi") Talmon of the Technion Faculty of Chemical Engineering is the Director of RBNI since 2010, when he took over from Prof. Uri Sivan.
