Dunsink Observatory
The Dunsink Observatory is an astronomical observatory established in 1785 in the townland of Dunsink near the city of Dublin, Ireland. Its most famous director was William Rowan Hamilton, who, amongst other things, discovered quaternions, the first non-commutative algebra, while strolling from the observatory into the centre of the city with some friends and his wife. He is also renowned for his Hamiltonian formulation of dynamics.
Saint Brigid's GAA
Saint Brigid's GAA Club is based in Castleknock, Fingal, Ireland and serves communities in Castleknock, Clonsilla, Blanchardstown and Corduff. Its main grounds are at Russell Park but it also has grounds at Beech Park (Castleknock), Porterstown (Coolmine) and Islandbridge. At present the club caters for 70 teams at all age levels from nursery under 9 to Adult in hurling, football, camogie, ladies football, handball and badminton.
Little Ratra
Little Ratra, sometimes called Ratra House, is one of the minor state residences located in Dublin's Phoenix Park. Until recently it was used as the Civil Defence School. The building, which was built circa 1876 and originally known as the Little Lodge, was the official residence of the Private Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, who lived out of season in the next door Viceregal Lodge.
Ashtown, Dublin
Ashtown (Irish: Baile an Áisigh) is a townland in the civil parish of Castleknock on the Northside of Dublin. It is bounded roughly by the townlands of Castleknock to the west, Cabra to the east and by Finglas to the north. It is situated by the Royal Canal, near the N3 Navan Road. The Phoenix Park is also nearby, its Ashtown Gate entrance about 500 metres south of the railway station.
Ashtown railway station
Ashtown is a commuter railway station in Fingal, Ireland on the Dublin Connolly to Maynooth and Docklands to M3 Parkway commuter services. It serves Ashtown, Dublin, Ireland and is near the Ashtown roundabout on the Navan Road (N3) Navan Road Parkway (formerly Phoenix Park), has opened nearby, but does not replace Ashtown. A major grade separated junction was built on the N3 to provide access to Navan Road Parkway.
Ashtown Castle
Ashtown Castle (Irish Caisleán Bhaile an Ásaighis) a fortified house in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. It was found hidden within the walls of a much larger and more recent building that was being used by the Papal Nuncio until 1978. At that time, the more recent and larger building was deemed structurally irreparable due to dry rot. But as that was being demolished, Ashtown castle was discovered. It has now been restored and forms part of the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre.
St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh GAA
St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated on the Navan Road on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. The St Oliver Plunketts senior football team are sponsored by Dublin Bus. The Plunketts won the 2006 Dublin AFL Division 2 title and won the 2007 Dublin AFL Division 1 title. Plunketts currently compete in the Dublin Senior Hurling League Division 2 and Dublin Senior B, Division 2 Camogie League.
