Saddat al Hindiyah
Saddat al Hindiyah is a city on the Euphrates River in Iraq. It is located just south of Musayyib and 80 km south of Baghdad. In October 2003, the US Army initiated rehabilitation of roads and swamp areas in the Nasir neighborhood of Sadat al Hindiyah, to improve residents’ access to social and economic networks by draining swamps and paving major roads. http://www. usaid. gov/iraq/updates/jan04/iraq_fs15_012004. pdf Both the modern and old Hindiya Barrages are located near this town.
Hindiya Barrage
The Hindiya Barrage is located on the Euphrates south of the town of Musayyib in Babil Governorate, Iraq. It was designed by British civil engineer William Willcocks in response to the silting up of the Hillah branch of the Euphrates. Construction of the dam, with a length of over 250 metres, lasted between 1911 and 1913. Between 1984 and 1989, a new dam was built several kilometres upstream as a replacement for the Hindiya Barrage.
