Kumbakonam
Kumbakonam, also spelt as Coombaconum in the records of British India, is a town and a special grade municipality in the Thanjavur district in the southeast Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located 40 km from Thanjavur and 273 km from Chennai and is the headquarters of the Kumbakonam taluk of Thanjavur district. The town is bounded by two rivers, the Kaveri River to the north and Arasalar River to the south.

Arasu Engineering College
Arasu Engineering College is an engineering college located on Chennai Main Road in Kumbakonam in the Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was ranked the No.2 engineering education provider in India by the Indian Government Educational Survey Board in 2009, closely behind IIT (Nagpur). 2004 Kumbakonam School fire
2004 Kumbakonam school fire was the fire in a school in Kumbakonam town in Thanjavur district in Indian state of Tamil Nadu. At least 90 students of the primary section of the Krishna English Medium School were burnt to death in their classroom as the thatched roof caught fire on 16 July 2004. Reason was found out to be a gas explosion from the nearby kitchen.
