Karnatak University
Karnatak University (Kannada: ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ) was established at Dharwad in October 1949. It had its official inauguration in March 1950. The campus spans 750 acres (3 km²). Dr. D. C. Dadasaheb Chintmani Pavate, M. A (Cantab) (1899–1978) was awarded Padma Bhushan from the Government of India in 1967. He was the vice-chancellor of the Karnatak university Dharwar, and the Governor of Punjab. Pavate was a Cambridge Mathematical Tripos wrangler. Pavate was born in Mamdapur a small village next to Gokak town. His mother was Shantamma. His father was a Lingayat farmer. Pavate completed primary schooling from Mamdapur and high school from Gokak. He stood first in B.
