Kannur University
Kannur University was established in 1996 to provide development of higher education in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Wayanad districts of Kerala, India. It was established after the passing of Act No. 22 of 1996 of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. A university by the name of "Malabar University" had come into existence even earlier by the passing of an ordinance by the Governor of Kerala, on 9 November 1995. Kannur University was inaugurated on 2 March 1996 by the Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala.

The Government College of Engineering, Kannur (GCEK) is a state-sponsored engineering college affiliated to Kannur University, Kerala, India. The college was started in October 1986, as a center for imparting engineering education in northern Kerala. It began in the Town High School, Kannur Campus. Government Engineering College, Wayanad
The Government Engineering College, Wayanad is an engineering college established and managed by the Government of Kerala, India. It was inaugurated in 1999 with an intake of 120 students in Computer Science, and Electronics and Communication. A new course on Electircal and Electronics Engineering started in 2010 with intake of another 60 students. The college is affiliated to Kannur University. The current Principal is Dr. Anil B, who is also the director of CERD.

Valapattanam River
Valapattanam River is the largest river in the Kannur district, located in the South Indian state of Kerala. Valapattam town is located on its bank.
