Reykjavík University
Reykjavík University (Icelandic: Háskólinn í Reykjavík), also known as RU, is the largest private university in Iceland with more than 3,200 students and over 500 employees (professors come from over 26 countries). It is chartered by the Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Icelandic Industries, and the Confederation of Icelandic Employers.
Kópavogskirkja
Kópavogskirkja is the oldest church in Kópavogur. It is located on the hill Borgarholt and offers a great view over Kópavogur, Reykjavík and surrounding area. Work on it began in 1958 and it was opened on December 16, 1963. Its architecture is unusual, it is the cross section of two wide arches. Its profile is prominent in the Kópavogur town seal.
Nauthólsvík
Nauthólsvík is a small neighbourhood in Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland, about 900 metres from Perlan. It has a beach with an artificial hot spring. The water temperature is usually about 20°C, and in the hot tubs, temperatures go up to 30–35°C. The service centre also sells snacks. Reykjavík University is located in Nauthólsvík in a new building, opened in 2010.
Perlan
Perlan is a landmark building in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. It is 25.7 metres (84.3 ft) high. It was originally designed by Ingimundur Sveinsson. Perlan is situated on the hill Öskjuhlíð where there had been hot water storage tanks for decades. In 1991 the tanks were updated and a hemispherical structure placed on top. This project was largely done at the behest of Davíð Oddsson, during his time as mayor of Reykjavík.
Commercial College of Iceland
Verzlunarskóli Íslands (English: The Commercial College of Iceland) is an Icelandic gymnasium. It was founded in 1905 and is the oldest private school in Iceland. The school is located in Reykjavík and has more than 1200 students.
Kópavogsvöllur
Kópavogsvöllur is a multi-use stadium in Kópavogur, Iceland. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Breiðablik and of HK. It is also used for track and field events. The stadium holds 5,501 spectators and has 1,869 seats in two stands. The stadium was opened on 7 June 1975, when home team Breiðablik hosted Víkingur Ólafsvík in the old 2nd division.
Reykjavik City Theatre
Reykjavík City Theatre is a theatre in Reykjavík. In 1989, after 90 years of performing in a small wooden building in the city centre, the company inaugurated a new, modern theatre complex. The large new building (11,000 square metres in total), comparable to many of Europe's best theatres, has very modern facilities and four highly technical and adaptable stages.
Reykjavík Theatre Company
The Reykjavík Theatre Company (RTC) was founded in 1897 when two existing companies in Reykjavík combined, performing in the then newly built Iðnó (Craftsmens' House). With Indriði Einarsson (1851-1939) as its Director, RTC became the fertile ground in which Iceland's professional theatre developed. Einarsson dedication to professional theatre champion, Sigurður Guðmundsson's (1833-1874), vision of a permanent National Theatre was key in the evolution of Iceland's professional Theatre.
Öskjuhlíð
Öskjuhlíð is a hill in the centre of Reykjavík, Iceland. It is 61 metres above sea level. The hill is a designated outdoors area and is covered with trees. At the top of the hill stands Perlan, a landmark building set on top of six water tanks. It is a city landmark built during Davíð Oddsson's period as mayor. During the Second World War the United States Army occupation force built various bunkers on the hill.
