Győr
Győr is the most important city of northwest Hungary, the capital of Győr-Moson-Sopron county and Western Transdanubia region, and — halfway between Budapest and Vienna — situated on one of the important roads of Central Europe. The city is the sixth largest in Hungary, and one of the seven main regional centres of the country.
Rába
The Rába is a river in southeastern Austria and western Hungary and a right tributary of the Danube. Its source is in Austria, some kilometres east of Bruck an der Mur below Heubodenhöhe Hill. It flows through the Austrian states of Styria and Burgenland, and the Hungarian counties of Vas and Győr-Moson-Sopron. It flows into a tributary of the Danube (Mosoni-Duna) in northwestern Hungary, in the city of Győr.
Little Hungarian Plain
The Little Hungarian Plain or Little Alföld is a plain of approximately 8,000 km² in northwestern Hungary, south-western Slovakia (Podunajská nížina – Danubian Lowland), and eastern Austria. It is a part of the Pannonian plain which covers most parts of Hungary.

Western Transdanubia is a statistical region of Hungary. It is part of the Transdanubia (NUTS 1) region. Western Transdanubia includes the counties of Zala, Vas, and Győr-Moson-Sopron.
Gabčíkovo–Nagymaros Dams
The Gabčíkovo–Nagymaros Dams is a large barrage project on the Danube. It was initiated by the Budapest Treaty of 16 September 1977 between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the People's Republic of Hungary. The project aimed at preventing catastrophic floods, improving river navigability and producing clean electricity.
Szigetköz
The Szigetköz (German: Kleine Schüttinsel or Little Schütt Island, Slovak: Malý Žitný ostrov or Little Rye Island) is an island plain in Western Hungary, part of the Little Hungarian Plain. The name literally means island alley, because the territory is located on an island. Its borders are the Danube and its branches; with a length of 52.5 km, with an average width of 6–8 km, and with a territory of 375 km², the island is Hungary's largest one.
Battle of Ménfő
The Battle of Ménfő was an important battle in the early history of the Kingdom of Hungary. Fought in 1044 at Ménfő, near Győr, between an army of mostly Germans and Hungarians, it was a victory for the Germans and thus for Westernising influences in Hungary. The Emperor Henry III invaded Hungary for the second time on 6 July 1044. His force was small and the Hungarian army of Samuel Aba large.

Széchenyi István University
The Széchenyi István University (SZE) is located in Győr, Hungary. The university was established in 2002. It has an excellent reputation in electrical and mechanical engineering and has a partnership with the German car manufacturer Audi.
National Theatre of Győr
The National Theatre of Győr is a theatre in Győr, Hungary. Opened in 2 November 1978, it is the main theatre of the Győr-Moson-Sopron region. Until 1 January. 1992, it bore the name Kisfaludy Károly Theatre. In 2008 the number of visitors was 128 283, thus the theatre ranks as the 6th most visited in the country.
Marcal
The Marcal is a right tributary of the Rába which rises near Sümeg in the Bakony region of western Hungary. The river flows north and reaches Ukk on the Little Hungarian Plain. It follows a path similar to the Rába, and in many places the two rivers are only a kilometer apart. The two rivers meet at Győr. In October 2010, the Marcal was contaminated in a chemical spill by red mud and suffered complete loss of aquatic life.
