Ghana
Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Ivory Coast to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. The word Ghana means "Warrior King" and is derived from the ancient Ghana Empire. Ghana was inhabited in pre-colonial times by a number of ancient predominantly Akan kingdoms, including the inland Ashanti Empire, the Akwamu, the Akyem, the Bonoman, the Denkyira and the Fante among others.
University of Ghana
The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest of the thirteen Ghanaian universities and tertiary institutions. It was founded in 1948 as the University College of the Gold Coast, and was originally an affiliate college of the University of London, which supervised its academic programmes and awarded degrees. It gained full university status in 1961, and now has nearly 40,000 students.
Achimota School
Achimota School (formerly Prince of Wales College and School, Achimota, now nicknamed Motown), is a co-educational boarding school located at Achimota in Accra, Ghana. Founded in 1924 by Sir Frederick Gordon Guggisberg, Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey and Rev. Alexander (Alec) Garden Fraser the school was formally opened in 1927 by Sir Frederick, then Governor of the British Gold Coast colony.
National Museum of Ghana
The National Museum of Ghana is in the Ghanaian capital, Accra. It is the largest and oldest of the six museums under the administration of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB). The museum building was opened on 5 March 1957 as part of Ghana’s independence celebrations. The official opening was performed by Duchess of Kent, the late Princess Marina. The Museum's first Director was A.W. Lawrence.
Ghana Stock Exchange
The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) is the principal stock exchange of Ghana. The exchange was incorporated in July 1989 with trading commencing in 1990. It currently has around 36 listed companies and 2 corporate bonds. All types of securities can be listed. Criteria for listing include capital adequacy, profitability, spread of shares, years of existence and management efficiency. The GSE is located in Accra.
Accra Metropolis District
The Accra Metropolis District is one of the ten (10) districts in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The district is considered Accra's city proper.
Accra International Conference Centre
The Accra International Conference Centre is an events venue in Accra, Ghana. Other venues include the Ghana Trade Fair and the National Theatre, but the Conference Centre is more popular due to it being significantly larger than the National Theatre, and at the same time smaller than the Ghana Trade Fair Centre (which was built to host pan-African events).
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital
The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is the premier health care facility in Ghana. It is the only tertiary hospital in the southern part of Ghana and it is also a teaching hospital affiliated with the medical school of the University of Ghana. Three centres of excellence, the National Cardiothoracic Centre, the National Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Radiotherapy Centre are all located within it.
Regent University College of Science and Technology
The Regent University College of Science and Technology (elsewhere referred to as Regent-Ghana) is located in Accra, Ghana. It was registered in September 2003, and received accreditation to operate as a tertiary institution in 2004, and in January 2005, it started its maiden lectures with about 30 pioneer students at its maiden campus, the Trinity Campus, Mataheko. Currently, it has three other satellite campuses, located at Dansoman, Lartebiorkoshie, and Graphic Road.
Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum
The Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and memorial park is located in downtown Accra, the capital of Ghana. It is dedicated to the prominent Ghanaian leader Kwame Nkrumah. A video of the mausoleum can be found here.
Golden Jubilee House
Flagstaff House is a presidential palace in Accra which previously served as a residence and office to the President of Ghana. The current seat of the government of Ghana is the Osu Castle. Flagstaff house was reconstructed and inaugurated with the name Golden Jubilee House in November 2008 when construction was about 70% - 80% completed.
Accra Academy
The Accra Academy was the first private academy to be established in the Gold Coast, present-day Ghana. The academy is one of the foremost secondary educational institutions in Ghana today and operates as a non-denominational day and boarding boys' school, located at Bubuashie in the Greater Accra Region. The academy runs courses in Business, Science, General Arts, General Agric and Visual Arts leading to the award of a West African Senior High School Certificate.
Akuafo Hall
Akuafo Hall otherwise referred to as the Hall of Excellence is the second Hall of residence to be established in the University College of the Gold Coast now University of Ghana. The Hall has its own statutes governing the administration of its affairs while the affairs of students are organized and supervised by Executives of the Junior Common Room.
High Commission of Nigeria, Accra
The Nigerian High Commission in Accra is the primary diplomatic mission of Nigeria in Ghana. It is on Joseph Broz Tito Avenue in Accra. The previous High Commissioner was former Senator for Lagos Central Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro, appointed by President Umaru Yar'Adua in May 2008. The High Commissioner in 2012 is Hon. Ademola Oluseyi Onafowokan.
Dome, Ghana
Dome is a town in the Ga East Municipal district, a district in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. As of 2012, Dome is the nineteenth largest settlement in Ghana, in terms of population, with a population of 78,785 people.
Azumah Nelson Sports Complex
Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, also known as Kaneshie Complex, is a multi-use stadium in Accra, Ghana. The stadium was originally built during the era of the Supreme Military Council under General Acheampong in the 1970s. It was used mostly for football matches, on club level by Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Great Olympics of the Ghana Premier League while the Ohene Djan Stadium was being re-built in 2007. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. It is named after Azumah Nelson.
Tetteh Quarshie Interchange
The Tetteh Quarshie Interchange is a cloverleaf interchange carrying a six-lane motorway that links the Liberation Road from 37 military hospital to the Pantang junction through Madina in Accra, Ghana. The interchange was commissioned for vehicular use on 27 February 2005 by then president of Ghana, John Kufour.
Ako Adjei Interchange
The Ako-Adjei Interchange is a flyover in Accra, Ghana. Until 2005 it was known as the Sankara Interchange. The construction of interchange started in September 1997 and ended in December 1999. It was constructed during the Jerry Rawlings administration and was the first interchange to be built in Ghana.
Taifa, Accra
Taifa is a town in the Ga East Municipal District, a district in the Greater Accra Region of southeastern Ghana near the capital Accra. Taifa is the twenty-sixth largest settlement in Ghana, in terms of population, with a population of 68,459 people. Taifa is located in the northwest suburbs area of Accra. It has a breakpoint on a railway line and a small park located on the northern edge of the location of the Taifa Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.

Gbawe
Gbawe is a town in the Greater Accra Region of southeastern Ghana near the capital Accra. Gbawe is the twenty-third largest settlement in Ghana, in terms of population, with a population of 74,403 people. Gbawe is located a few kilometers west of Accra in the Ga West District. At the Ghana census of 26 March 2000, the population was 28,989 inhabitants living in the Town. Projections of 1 January 2007 estimated the population to be 52,910 inhabitants.
