Schlei
The Schlei is a narrow inlet of the Baltic Sea in Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany. It stretches for approximately 20 miles from the Baltic near Kappeln and Arnis to the city of Schleswig. Along the Schlei are many small bays and swamps. The important Viking settlement of Hedeby was located at the head of the firth, but was later abandoned in favor of the city of Schleswig. A museum has been built on the site, telling the story of the abandoned town.
Carlsburg, Schlei
Gereby is the former name of a German place nowadays called Carlsburg. It is situated in Schwansen at the northern borderline to Angeln. Today Carlsburg is a settlement on the Schlei inlet, some 10 km south of the city of Kappeln. Located on Carlsburg is Schloss Carlsburg, a country manor owned by the present Duke of Schleswig-Holstein and the former location of a boarding school (Landerziehungsheim Carlsburg) which has since moved to Louisenlund, near Fleckeby.
Schwansen
Schwansen (Danish: Svans or Svansø, meaning "swan island") is a peninsula in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, protruding into the Baltic Sea. It is located between the Eckernförde Bay in the south and the Schlei inlet in the north. The Danish dialect South Jutlandic was still spoken in Schwansen around 1780 (the last time in the villages near the Schlei). Denmark lost Schwansen during the Second Schleswig War in 1864.
Thorsberg moor
The Thorsberg moor (German: Thorsberger Moor, Danish: Thorsberg Mose or Thorsbjerg Mose, Tosbarch, Tåsbjerre "Thor's hill") near Süderbrarup in Anglia, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, is a peat bog in which the Angles deposited votive offerings for approximately four centuries. It is the location of important Roman Iron Age finds, including early Elder Futhark runic inscriptions such as the Thorsberg chape, a Roman helmet, a shield buckle, and an early example of socks (attached to trousers).

Schlei was an Amt ("collective municipality") in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It was situated on the south-eastern bank of the Schlei, an inlet of the Baltic Sea, between Eckernförde and Schleswig. The village Fleckeby was the seat of the Amt. In January 2008, it was merged with the Ämter Schwansen and Windeby to form the Amt Schlei-Ostsee.
Wittensee
Wittensee was an Amt ("collective municipality") in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It was named after the lake Wittensee, which is situated in the Amt. It was located between Eckernförde and Rendsburg. The village Groß Wittensee was the seat of the Amt. In January 2008, it was merged with the Amt Wittensee to form the Amt Hüttener Berge.

Stiftung Louisenlund
Stiftung Louisenlund is a privately run boarding school for boys and girls in Güby, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The school's main building is in Louisenlund Castle, which was built by Hermann von Motz between 1772 and 1776 for Landgrave Charles of Hesse as a gift for his wife, Princess Louise of Denmark, the daughter of King Frederick V of Denmark.
Eckernförde Bay
Eckernförde Bay is a Förde in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is about 16 km long and turns at the mouth, with the south bank on approximately ten km of the Bay of Kiel. The border with Kiel Fjord is at Bülker lighthouse. The once forested peninsula between Kiel Fjord and Eckernförde Bay formed the borderland between the Saxons and the Danes in the Middle Ages and was termed the Danish Wold. North of Eckernförde Bay is the peninsula Schwansen. At the end of the bay is the city of Eckernförde.
Missunde
Missunde is a village on the Schlei coast of Schwansen in Southern Schleswig in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, about 7 miles from Schleswig. It is part of the municipality Kosel. It has a ferry over the Schlei to Angeln. Knud Lavard built a fort there in 1120. It is near the east end of the Dannewerk. The ferry site at Missunde was above all important and up to the 19th century much fought over, since it is at the narrowest place on the Schlei.
Windeby I
Windeby I is the name given to the bog body found preserved in a peat bog near Windeby, Northern Germany, in 1952. Until recently, the body was also called the Windeby Girl, because an archeologist believed it to be the body of a 14-year old female due to its slight build. Prof. Heather Gill-Robinson, a Canadian anthropologist and pathologist, used DNA testing to show the body was actually that of a male.
Dänischer Wohld (Amt)
Amt Dänischer Wohld is an Amt ("collective municipality") in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated between Eckernförde and Kiel, around the village Gettorf, which is the seat of the Amt, but not part of it. It is named after the Dänischer Wohld peninsula, of which the Amt only encompasses a central part. Battle of Turaida
The Battle of Turaida or Treiden (also known as the Battle on Aa) was fought on June 1, 1298 on the banks of the Gauja River near the Turaida Castle . The Livonian Order was decisively defeated by the residents of Riga allied with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania under command of Vytenis. In 1296 a civil war broke out in Terra Mariana between burghers of Riga and the Livonian Order. Johannes III von Schwerin, Archbishop of Riga, unsuccessfully attempted to mediate the dispute.
