Burgenlandkreis (former district)
The Burgenlandkreis was a district (Kreis) in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Merseburg-Querfurt, Weißenfels, Leipziger Land, Aschersleben-Staßfurt, Altenburger Land, Greiz, district-free Gera, Saale-Holzland, Weimarer Land, Sömmerda and the Kyffhäuserkreis.
Unstrut
The Unstrut is a river in eastern Germany and a left tributary of the Saale. It originates in northern Thuringia near Dingelstädt and its catchment area is the whole of the Thuringian Basin. It breaks out of the basin through the Thuringian Gate west of Heldrungen and, in its lower reaches, flows through Saxony-Anhalt before emptying into the Saale near Naumburg. The total length of the Unstrut is 192 kilometres .
Naumburg Cathedral
The Naumburger Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, located in Germany, is an important architectural work of the Late-Romanesque as well as the Early- and Late-Gothic. Especially interesting are statues of the twelve cathedral founders (Stifterfiguren) and the magnificent Lettner of the western choir, works of the Naumburg Masters. The church was erected with the transfer of the Episcopal See from Zeitz in 1028 next to an old Parish church.
Unstruttal (Verbandsgemeinde)
Unstruttal is a Verbandsgemeinde ("collective municipality") in the Burgenlandkreis (district), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Before 1 January 2010, it was a Verwaltungsgemeinschaft. It is situated along the river Unstrut, approx. 50 km west of Leipzig. The seat of the Verbandsgemeinde is in Freyburg. Nietzsche-Haus, Naumburg
The Nietzsche-Haus in Naumburg, Germany, is a building dedicated to the life and work of the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche In the summer of 1858 Nietzsche's mother, Franziska Nietzsche, moved with her two children, Elisabeth and Friedrich, to 18 Weingarten in Naumberg, the site of the Nietzsche-Haus. She rented a bright, spacious apartment on the upper floor. In 1878 she bought the house and continued to live there until her death in 1897.
Neuenburg Castle (Freyburg)
Neuenburg Castle is a hilltop castle in Freyburg, a town in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The castle was built around 1090 by the Thuringian count Ludwig der Springer, securing his territory in the east, as did its sister castle Wartburg in the west. The name Neuenburg derives from German for "new castle".
