Herford Abbey
Herford Abbey was the oldest women's religious house in the Duchy of Saxony. It was founded as a house of secular canonesses in 789, initially in Müdehorst (near the modern Bielefeld) by a nobleman called Waltger, who moved it in about 800 onto the lands of his estate Herivurth (later Oldenhervorde) which stood at the crossing of a number of important roads and fords over the Aa and the Werre. The present city of Herford grew up on this site around the abbey.
Oerlinghausen Airfield
Oerlinghausen Airfield, known as Oerlinghausen Segelflugplatz, German for Oerlinghausen gliding airflield, is a small airfield situated in the town of Oerlinghausen close to Bielefeld in the North Rhine-Westphalia German region. With around 25,000 glider take-offs each year it is one of the largest gliding centres, comparable with Lasham Gliding Society. It is also used by motor planes, microlights and hot air balloons. The airfield is home to 13 gliding clubs and to a gliding school.

The Bielefeld Opera is the venue of Städtische Bühnen Bielefeld (Municipal Theatre Bielefeld) in Bielefeld, Germany. It is a Dreisparten Haus (three-department house), offering plays, music, and ballet. The main performance venue is the Stadttheater am Niederwall (Municipal Theatre at the Lower Wall), built in 1904 and extensively renovated from 2004 to 2006. It is the largest theater in East Westphalia, offering 500 performances annually.
