Schmalkalden-Meiningen is a Landkreis in the west of Thuringia, Germany. Its neighboring districts are (from the northwest clockwise) the districts Wartburgkreis, Gotha, Ilm-Kreis, the district-free city Suhl, the district Hildburghausen, the Bavarian district Rhön-Grabfeld, and the district Fulda in Hesse.
Wachenbrunn transmitter
The Wachenbrunn transmitter is a large broadcasting facility for medium wave in Germany, established in the 1950s. Until 1993 the main transmitter of this facility, the medium wave transmitter for 882 kHz was run with 250 kilowatts. In that year the transmission power of this transmitter, which was formerly used for transmitting the "Voice of DDR" and since the beginning of the 1990s for "MDR info" was reduced to 20 kilowatts.

The Meiningen Steam Locomotive Works is a railway repair shop in Meiningen, Germany. It is owned by Deutsche Bahn and has specialised in the maintenance of museum steam locomotives since 1990, having extensive experience in maintaining steam engines. Today, customers of the factory include railway museums and museum railways from all over Europe. The factory is responsible for the safety inspections of all operational German steam locomotives.

Elisabethenburg Palace
Elisabethenburg Palace is a Baroque palace located on the northwestern edge of Meiningen in Germany. Until 1918 it was the residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen. The castle now houses the Meininger Museum as well as the Max Reger archives, the Thuringian State Archives, the Max Reger music school, the Johannes Brahms concert hall, a restaurant, the tower Cafe, and the ceremonial rooms of the Meinigen City Council and Registry Office.

Meiningen Court Theatre
The Meiningen Court Theatre, today Theater Meiningen (Meininger Theater), is a four-division theater in the Thuringian town of Meiningen. The ensemble of the theater offers musical theater (opera, operetta, musicals), drama, concerts and puppet shows. In addition, ballet complements and Youth Theatre, from Eisenach State Theatre produced and performed. Connected to the theater continues to be the Meiningen orchestra.
Amtsgericht Meiningen
Amtsgericht Meiningen is the District Court of Meiningen and one of 23 district courts in Thuringia, Germany. It has 23 judges and 40 employees in mid-service, 19 employees in the elevated service and seven bailiffs. The district court of Meiningen was the first founded in October 1879 as one of 16 district courts in the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. Until 1945 it was located in the building of the district court in Meiningen in Bismarckstraße 14 (now Neu-Ulmer-Straße).
