Berghof (residence)
The Berghof was Adolf Hitler's home in the Obersalzberg of the Bavarian Alps near Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany. Other than the Wolfsschanze in East Prussia, Hitler spent more time at the Berghof than anywhere else during World War II. It was also one of the most widely known of his headquarters, which were located throughout Europe. Rebuilt, much expanded and renamed in 1935, the Berghof was Hitler's vacation residence for ten years.
Kehlsteinhaus
The Kehlsteinhaus (in English-speaking countries also known as the Eagle's Nest) is a chalet-style structure erected on a subpeak of the Hoher Göll known as the Kehlstein. It was built as an extension of the Obersalzberg complex erected in the mountains above Berchtesgaden. The Kehlsteinhaus was intended as a 50th birthday present for Adolf Hitler to serve as a retreat, and a place for him to entertain visiting dignitaries.
General Walker Hotel
The General Walker Hotel was a former Third Reich hotel in Obersalzberg, Germany. Following World War II, it became a United States Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC), and was renamed after US Army General Walton Walker, killed in action in the Korean War. It was demolished in 2000.
Berchtesgaden Provostry
Berchtesgaden Provostry or the Prince-Provostry of Berchtesgaden was an immediate (reichsunmittelbar) principality of the Holy Roman Empire, held by a canonry, i.e. a collegiate foundation, of Augustinians led by a Prince-Provost.
Berchtesgaden Central Station
Berchtesgaden Central Station (Berchtesgaden Hauptbahnhof) is a station of the Bavarian market town of Berchtesgaden, which is the smallest town in Germany with a Hauptbahnhof. It has five platform tracks and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. It is the terminus of the Freilassing–Berchtesgaden railway. Previously the Berchtesgaden–Hangender Stein railway, also called the Grüne Elektrische (“Green Electric”) started from the station.
Kehlstein
The Kehlstein is a 1,834 m (6,017 ft) subpeak of the Hoher Göll, a 2,522 m (8,274') mountain in the Bavarian Alps above Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden. It is the location of the famous Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest). A trail leaves from it up the Mannlgrat, an east-facing ridge of the Hoher Göll. Served by a Klettersteig, the route is regarded as the easiest to the taller peak's summit.
Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg
Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg (Obersalzberg Center of Documentation) is a museum, erected on the groundwork of the former Nazi guesthouse in order to supply historical information concerning the use of the Obersalzberg by Nazi leaders, especially Adolf Hitler who regularly vacationed in this area beginning in 1928. The museum was opened in 1999, and by 2007 had been visited by more than one million people.
