Heidenheim is a district (Kreis) in the east of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Ostalbkreis, Dillingen, Günzburg, Alb-Donau and Göppingen.
Steinheim crater
The Steinheim crater is a meteorite crater in Steinheim am Albuch, Heidenheim County, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The crater is located at the northeastern end of the Swabian Alb near the much larger (24 km diameter) Nördlinger Ries crater and was most probably formed simultaneously with it by the oblique, ENE directed impact of a double asteroid. It is 3.8 km in diameter and the age is estimated to be 15 ± 1 million years. The crater is exposed at the surface.

Hellenstein Castle
Hellenstein Castle is located 70 meters above the city of Heidenheim an der Brenz in eastern Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It was once the home of the Lords of Hellenstein. The castle was first built during the 12th century by the Hellenstein family. In 1273 the castle passed out of the control of the Hellensteins and had several owners before coming under the control of the Dukes of Württemberg. On August 5, 1530 the old castle burned to the ground and was rebuilt during the mid-16th century.

The current castle was built in 1672 and rests on the remains of an earlier castle destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. Within the castle is a small Community Heritage Museum that is open on Sundays, Holidays or by appointment and hosts several concerts throughout the year.

The castle is first mentioned around 1050 in connection with the von Stotzingen family. It was partly destroyed in 1340, and cleared and rebuilt in 1366. The repaired castle was then again destroyed in 1378. It was built as a new castle around 1530.

At present it is a hotel and restaurant, though both are currently closed. The site is first mentioned in 1286, though the castle was built around 1300 by the von Stotzingen family. The castle was first expanded in 1500-50, followed by further expansions in 1608-10 and 1747-51.
Hohlenstein-Stadel
Hohlenstein-Stadel is a cave located at N 48° 32' 57.57" and E 10° 10' 20.75" in the Hohlenstein cliff (also known as the Hohle Fels) at the southern rim of the Lonetal (Lone valley) in Swabian Alb, Germany. While first excavations were started after the second half of the 19th century, it was not until 1969 that the significance of some of the findings were realized. The most significant finding was a small, ivory statue dubbed Lion Man which is one of the oldest known sculptures in the world.
Volkmarsberg
The Volkmarsberg is a mountain in the Swabian Alb, south of Aalen in the Ostalbkreis, Germany with an altitude of 743 metres . It rises at the edge of the town of Oberkochen, from where there is a 2.5-kilometre path to the summit. On the summit plateau there is a shelter as well as the 23-metre Volkmarsberg tower, a stone observation tower built in 1930, from which one has a far-reaching view over the entire Ostalbkreis.
