Field of the Cloth of Gold
The Field of the Cloth of Gold or Camp du Drap d'Or is the name given to a place in Balinghem, between Guînes and Ardres, in France, near Calais. It was the site of a meeting that took place from 7 June to 24 June 1520, between King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France. The site is indicated by a commemorative plaque on the D231 road (Route de Marquise) at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:50.8523|N|1.9229|E|type:landmark_region:FR|||| |primary |name= }}.
Channel Dash
The Channel Dash, (codenamed Operation Cerberus by the Germans), was a major naval engagement during World War II in which a German Kriegsmarine squadron consisting of both Scharnhorst class battleships, and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen along with escorts, ran a British blockade and successfully sailed from Brest in Brittany to their home bases in Germany via the English Channel.
V-3 cannon
The V-3 was a German World War II supergun working on the multi-charge principle whereby secondary propellant charges are fired to add velocity to a projectile. The weapon was planned to be used to bombard London from two large bunkers in the Pas-de-Calais region of northern France, but they were rendered unusable by Allied bombing raids before completion. Two similar guns were used to bombard Luxembourg from December 1944 to February 1945.
The Burghers of Calais
Les Bourgeois de Calais is one of the most famous sculptures by Auguste Rodin, completed in 1889. It serves as a monument to an occurrence in 1347 during the Hundred Years' War, when Calais, an important French port on the English Channel, was under siege by the English for over a year.
Sangatte
Sangatte is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department on the northern coast of France on the English Channel. Like many place names in French Flanders, the name is of Flemish (Dutch) origin (Zandgat) and means "gap in the sand".
HMS Hermes (1898)
HMS Hermes was a Highflyer-class cruiser which served with the Royal Navy. She is notable for being refitted in April–May 1913 as the first experimental seaplane carrier of the Royal Navy, with a launching platform and room to stow three seaplanes (the French Foudre preceded her by about a year).

Calais-Fréthun is a mainline and international railway station in the suburbs of Calais, France, one of three stations serving the town, the other two are Calais-Ville in the town centre and Gare des Fontinettes in the suburbs. The station has four platforms, two on the high speed line for Eurostar services, and two for TGV long distance and TER Nord-Pas-de-Calais regional services.

Gare de Calais-Ville is a railway station in the city centre of Calais, France. It is the principal station for commuter and short distance rail services in Calais. Another station Calais-Fréthun, which is where longer distance services depart from, is connected by a free shuttle bus service (to meet with services to Paris). There is a third smaller station at Gare des Fontinettes. There is a shuttle service bus from the Port of Calais to the station.
Siege of Calais (1940)
The Siege of Calais (1940) was a battle for the port and town of Calais during the German blitzkrieg which overran northern France in 1940. It immediately preceded Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force through Dunkirk. It has long been a subject of debate whether the sacrifice of the largely British garrison at Calais contributed to the successful evacuation from Dunkirk.
1580 Dover Straits earthquake
Though severe earthquakes in the north of France and Britain are rare, the Dover Straits earthquake of 6 April 1580 appears to have been one of the largest in the recorded history of England, Flanders or northern France. It occurred at around 6 o'clock in the evening.
Cité Europe
Cité Europe is a shopping centre located next to the French terminal of the Channel Tunnel at Coquelles. Inaugurated on March 21, 1995, approximately 10 months after the Tunnel opened, Cité Europe has over 140 shops, a hypermarket, a 12-screen cinema complex and around twenty restaurants. Designed by architect Paul Andreu, it is intended to echo the design of the Tunnel. It is easily accessible by public transport, and has free parking for more than 4000 cars.
SM U-27 (Germany)
SM U-27 was a German Type U-27 U-boat built for service in the Kaiserliche Marine. She was launched on 14 July 1913, and commissioned on 8 May 1914 with Kapitänleutnant Bernhard Wegener in command. On 18 October 1914, the British submarine E-3 was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea by U-27. This was the first action in which one submarine sank another.

Hubert Latham
Arthur Charles Hubert Latham (10 January 1883 – 25 June 1912) was a French aviation pioneer. He was the first person to attempt to cross the English Channel in an aeroplane. Due to engine failure during his first of two attempts to cross the Channel, he became the first person to land an aeroplane on a body of water.

Siege of Calais (1558)
The Siege of Calais was fought in early 1558 during the Italian War of 1551–1559. The French force commanded by Francis, Duke of Guise captured the city of Calais from the Kingdom of England, who had ruled it since 1347.

Saint-Inglevert Airfield
Saint-Inglevert Airfield is a general aviation airfield at Saint-Inglevert, Pas-de-Calais, France. In the First World War an airfield was established near Saint-Inglevert by the Royal Flying Corps, later passing to the Royal Air Force on formation and thus becoming RAF Saint Inglevert. In 1920, a civil airfield was established on a different site which was a designated customs airfield. During the Second World War, Saint-Inglevert was occupied by the Royal Air Force and the Armée de l'Air.
Tour du Guet
The Tour du Guet is a 13th century watchtower in Calais, Pas-de-Calais, northern France. Located on Place d'Armes behind the Hotel de Ville, it is 39 metres in height, and features a dovecote for carrier pigeons. The tower dates from 1214, when Philip I, Count of Boulogne built fortifications in the town. Damaged by a 1580 earthquake, it was used as a lighthouse until 1848, when it became a watch tower. During World War I, it served as a military post.
