Battle of Dunkirk
The Battle of Dunkirk was an important battle in the Second World War between the Allies and Germany. As part of the Battle of France on the Western Front, the Battle of Dunkirk was the defence and evacuation of British and allied forces in Europe from 26 May to 4 June 1940. After the Phoney War, the Battle of France began in earnest on 10 May 1940. To the east, the German Army Group B invaded and subdued the Netherlands and advanced westward through Belgium.
Dunkirk evacuation
The Dunkirk evacuation, commonly known as the Miracle of Dunkirk, code-named Operation Dynamo by the British, was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, France, between 27 May and the early hours of 4 June 1940, because the British, French, and Belgian troops were cut off by the German army during the Battle of Dunkirk in the Second World War. The evacuation was ordered on 26 May.
Petite-Synthe
Petite-Synthe is a former commune of the Nord département in northern France. The commune of Saint-Pol-sur-Mer was created in 1877, by its territory being detached from Petite-Synthe. In 1972 the commune of Dunkerque absorbed Petite-Synthe and Rosendaël. In 1980, a large part of Petite-Synthe was detached from Dunkerque and merged into Grande-Synthe.

The Wormhoudt massacre (or Wormhout massacre) was the mass murder of 80 British and French POWs by the Waffen SS during the Battle of France in May 1940.

HMS Keith (1930)
HMS Keith was a B-class destroyer flotilla leader built for the Royal Navy around 1930. Initially assigned to the Mediterranean Fleet, she was placed in reserve in 1937, after repairs from a collision were completed. During the Spanish Civil War of 1936–1939, the ship was reactivated and spent some time in Spanish waters, enforcing the arms blockade imposed by Britain and France on both sides of the conflict.

Brasserie Thiriez is a small craft brewery located in Esquelbecq, a town in the Arrondissement of Dunkirk in the Nord département, in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais région of France, quite close to the Belgian border. It is situated on the grounds that formerly housed the Poitevin farm brewery, which was active and served the local area until 1945.
HMS Havant (H32)
HMS Havant was an H-class destroyer originally ordered by the Brazilian Navy with the name Javary in the late 1930s, but was bought by the Royal Navy after the beginning of World War II in September 1939. The ship was initially assigned to escort duties in the Western Approaches, but was transferred to the Home Fleet when the Norwegian Campaign began in April 1940.

Peene Becque
The Peene Becque is a small river in Nord département in France. The word Peene may be related to the modern Dutch word Peen that refers to the wild carrot plant (Daucus carota), while becque is the transliteration of the Dutch word beek, referring to a small stream (cf. English word beck).
Canal de Bergues
The Canal de Bergues is an 8 km long canal connecting Bergues and the ports at Dunkerque, in the Nord department, in northern France. It was built in 16th century. The canal was in use in the 9th century and rebuilt in the 18th is now a deadend at Bergues.
Canal de Bourbourg
The Canal de Bourbourg is a 19.5 km long canal which connects the Aa River and Dunkerque's inner harbours in the Nord department, in northern France. It forms one segment of the Canal Dunkerque-Escaut. In the village of Brouckerque, coming from Dunkerque, the canal can either turn right on its path to the Aa at Bourbourg, or continue straight to join the Canal de la Colme near the village of Lynck and continue on to the Aa River at Watten.
Dunkirk lighthouse
Dunkirk lighthouse (phare de Dunkerque or phare de Risban) is an automated first order (i.e. 60 km beam or further) port lighthouse, the highest of this type in France. It is sited near Dunkirk. Construction on the lighthouse was completed in 1842.
Canal Dunkerque-Escaut
The Canal Dunkerque-Escaut is a 189 km series of large canals from Dunkerque to Mortagne-du-Nord. The route is also known as the liaison, La Liaison au Grand Gabarit, Canal au Grand Gabarit, Dunkerque-Escaut Waterway and Liaison Dunkerque-Escaut. The Grand Gabarit (English: Large Gauge) canal route was created after the Second World War to accommodate very large commercial vessels - up to 143m long by 11m wide. This includes push-tows and side-by-side configurations.
Canal de Furnes
The Canal de Furnes connects Dunkerque to Furnes, Belgium. The Belgian border is at PK13 and the canal continues into Belgium as Canal Nieuport-Dunkerque.
Duchesse Anne
The Duchesse Anne (formerly called Großherzogin Elisabeth) is the last remaining full-rigged French ship. It was built in 1901 with a steel hull by the yard of Johann C. Tecklenborg of Bremerhaven-Geestemünde according to plans drawn by Georg W. Claussen. The mainmast is 48 m tall and 25 sails were rigged. As the Duchesse Anne, the ship has been a classified Monument since 5 November 1982.
