Suva

Suva is the capital and the second most populated municipality of Fiji, after Nasinu. It is located on the southeast coast of the island of Viti Levu, in the Rewa Province, Central Division. In 1877, it was decided to make Suva the capital of Fiji when the geography of former main European settlement at Levuka on the island of Ovalau proved too restrictive. The administration of the colony was moved from Levuka to Suva in 1882. Suva is Fiji's political and administrative capital.

Rewa River

The Rewa River is the widest river in Fiji. Located on the island of Viti Levu, the Rewa originates in Tomanivi, the highest peak in Fiji, and flows southeast for 145 km to Laucala Bay, near Suva. The Rewa River drains approximately one-third of Viti Levu. The Rewa River is fed by two large tributaries, the Wainibuka and the Wainimala and it is joined by several other rivers of importance before it reaches the sea by a delta of many mouths.

Lami, Fiji

Lami, Fiji is an urban area in Rewa Province, Fiji, north-west of Suva. It was formally incorporated as a Town in 1977, and had a population of 20,529 at the most recent census in 2007. The municipal boundaries enclose an area of 680 square kilometers. Lami is governed by a Town Council of 12-members, elected for three-year terms, who elect a Mayor from among themselves. The Mayor's term is for one year, but may be extended indefinitely.

Nasinu is an urban area on the island Viti Levu in Fiji. It is officially designated a "Town" (and was formally incorporated as such in 1999) despite its population (87,446 at the 2007 Census). Nasinu is the most populous municipality in Fiji, having overtaken that of Suva, and is one of Fiji's fastest-growing towns. Its land area is the largest of any municipal area in Fiji, and more than twice that of Suva.

Albert Park (Suva)

Albert Park is located in Suva, the capital of Fiji. Albert Park can hold two rugby matches at one time. 1953 Suva earthquake

The 1953 Suva earthquake occurred on September 14, 1953, at 00:26 UTC near Suva, Fiji, just off the southeast shore of Viti Levu. This earthquake had a magnitude of Ms 6.75. The earthquake triggered a coral reef platform collapse and a submarine landslide that caused a tsunami. Eight people were reported killed; a wharf, bridges, and buildings were severely damaged in Suva.
