Al-Hakim Mosque
Al-Jam`e Al-Anwar also Al-Hakim Mosque is a major Islamic religious site in Cairo, Egypt. It is named after Imam Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (985–1021), the sixth Fatimid caliph,16 th Fatimid/Ismaili Imam and the first to be born in Egypt. The mosque was originally built as an enclosure by the Fatimid vizier Gawhar Al-Siqilli (c. 928–992), but was incorporated into the extended fortifications built by Badr al-Jamali. It consists of an irregular rectangle with four arcades surrounding the courtyard.
Al-Azhar University
Al-Azhar University is a university in Cairo, Egypt. Founded in 970 or 972 as a madrasa, or centre of Islamic learning, its students studied the Qur'an and Islamic law in detail, along with logic, grammar, rhetoric, and how to calculate the lunar phases of the moon. By bringing together the study of a number of subjects in the same place it was one of the first universities in the world and the only one to survive as a modern university including secular subjects in the curriculum.

Al-Hussein Mosque
Al-Hussein Mosque ; alternative transliterations: Husayn, Hussain, Husayn, Hussayn; also prefixed by the honorific title Sayyidna is a mosque built in 1154 and located in Cairo, Egypt, near the Khan El-Khalili bazaar. It is named for the grandson of Muhammad, Husayn ibn Ali, whose head is believed by Fatimid Shia/Dawoodi Bohra to be buried on the grounds of the mosque. Many Shī‘ah Muslims believe that the head of Husayn ibn Ali is with his body in the Imam Husayn Mosque in Karbala.
City of the Dead (Cairo)
The City of the Dead, or Cairo Necropolis (Qarafa, el-Arafa), is an Arabic necropolis and cemetery below the Mokattam Hills in southeastern Cairo, Egypt. The people of Cairo, the Cairenes, and most Egyptians, call it el'arafa (trans. 'the cemetery'). It is a 4 miles long (north-south) dense grid of tomb and mausoleum structures, where some people live and work amongst the dead. Some reside here to be near ancestors, of recent to ancient lineage.
Bab al-Futuh
Bab al Futuh is a gate in the walls of the Old City of Cairo, Egypt, facing north. It was finished in the year 1087. It stands at the northern end of Muizz Street. The gate was part of fortification built by Commander/Vizier Badr al-Jamali of Fatimid Imam/caliph Mustansir. Name 'Futuh' indicate it as victory gate. Its rounded towers were a stronger defense than the square towers of Bab al-Nasr (another Old City gate, just to the east).
Bayt Al-Suhaymi
Bayt Al-Suhaymi ("House of Suhaymi") is an old Ottoman era house museum in Cairo, Egypt. It was originally built in 1648 by Abdel Wahab el Tablawy along the Darb al-Asfar, a very prestigious and expensive part of Medieval Cairo. In 1796 it was purchased by Sheikh Ahmed as-Suhaymi whose family held it for several subsequent generations. The Sheikh greatly extended the house from its original through incorporating neighbouring houses into its structure.

Bab al-Nasr, Cairo
Bab al-Nasr, in Islamic Cairo is a massive fortified gate with rectangular stone towers flanking the semicircular arch of the eastern Portal. The original Bab al-Nasr was built south of the present one by Fatimid general Jawhar as-Siqilli under Imam Moiz when the city was first laid out.
2008 Cairo landslide
The 2008 Cairo landslide happened on September 6, 2008, in Al-Duwayqa, an informal settlement in the Manshiyat naser neighborhood of east Cairo, Egypt. 119 people died in the rockslide. Boulders weighing as much as 70 tons rolled into the shantytown following the landslide. After most of the neighborhood had been flattened, those families still living in the slum were evicted and any remaining buildings were flattened by the government.
Al Musafir Khana Palace
The Musafir Khana Palace also known as the Musafirkana Palace was built in Cairo, Egypt between 1779 and 1788 by Mahmud Muharram; a wealthy merchant. Muhammad Ali Pasha bought the palace in early 19th century to use as a royal guesthouse. It was the birthplace of his grandson Khedive Ismai'l 1830-1895. In 1998, it burned to the ground. It was an excellent example of the Ottoman Style.

Dār al-Iftā' al-Miṣriyyah is an educational institute founded to represent Islam and the international flagship for Islamic legal research since its establishment in 1313 AH/1895 CE. It fulfills its role by keeping contemporary Muslims in touch with religious principles, clarifying "the right way," removing doubts concerning religious and worldly life, and revealing religious law for the new issues of contemporary life.

Maimonides Synagogue
The Maimonides Synagogue, also known as the Rav Moshe Synagogue, is a historic synagogue located in Cairo, Egypt. A synagogue has existed at the site since the 10th century and was subsequently named after the famous Jewish philosopher, rabbi and physician Maimonides, after his arrival there in around 1168. It is believed that Maimonides' original tomb is contained within the building.

Juyushi Mosque
Al-Jam`e Al-Juyushi or Juyushi Mosque was built by Badr al-Jamali who was "Amir al Juyush" of the Fatimids. The mosque was completed in 478 H/1085 AD under the patronage of the then Caliph and Imam Ma'ad al-Mustansir Billah. It was built on an end of the Mokattam Hills which would ensure a view of the Cairo city. In the Ottoman period, the mosque was probably used by dervishes as a monastery.
