Cairo
Cairo; Arabic: القاهرة; is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world and Africa. Its metropolitan area is the 16th largest in the world. Located near the Nile Delta, it was founded in 969 AD. Nicknamed "the city of a thousand minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture, Cairo has long been a centre of the region's political and cultural life.
1959 African Cup of Nations
The 1959 African Cup of Nations was the second edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the football championship of Africa. It was hosted and won by the United Arab Republic, a short-lived confederation between Egypt and Syria. Only three teams participated: host team United Arab Republic, Sudan and Ethiopia. All three matches took place in Cairo.
TWA Flight 903
TWA Flight 903 was a regularly scheduled flight from Bombay (Mumbai), India to New York-Idlewild, via Cairo and Rome-Ciampino. The Star of Maryland, a Lockheed Constellation L-749A, flew the route on the night of August 31, 1950. It departed Cairo at 23:35 for Rome-Ciampino with 55 persons aboard (48 passengers and seven crew members) in good weather.
Ramses Station
Ramses Railway Station is the main railway station of Cairo, Egypt. The name is derived from the Ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II whose statue was erected by Nasser on the square in 1955. The station was formerly known as Misr Station. The original railway station was built as the terminal of the first rail link from Alexandria to Cairo in 1856. The current building was erected in 1892 and upgraded in 1955. As of January 2001 it was undergoing a major modernisation.

The Egyptian National Library and Archives in Cairo is the largest library in Egypt. The second largest are the libraries of Al-Azhar University and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (New Library of Alexandria). The National Library, the oldest government library, houses several million volumes on a wide range of topics. It is one of the largest in the world with thousands of ancient collections. It also contains a vast variety of Arabic-language and other Eastern manuscripts.

Sha'ar Hashamayim Synagogue (Cairo)
The Sha'ar Hashamayim Synagogue (lit. Gate of Heaven) is located in Cairo, Egypt. The synagogue was also known as Temple Ismailia and the Adly Street Synagogue. Its long-time leader was Chief Rabbi Chaim Nahum. In 2008, the synagogue marked its 100th anniversary. The synagogue was built in a style evoking ancient Egyptian temples, and was once the largest building on the boulevard. When the synagogue opened in 1899, there was a vibrant Jewish community in Cairo.
6th October Bridge
The 6th October Bridge is an elevated highway in central Cairo, Egypt. The 20.5 kilometres bridge and causeway crosses the Nile River twice from the west bank suburbs, east through Gezira Island to Downtown Cairo, and on to connect the city to the Cairo International Airport to the east. Its name commemorates the date of 'The Crossing' which commenced the outbreak day of the October War in 1973.
Bulaq
Bulaq is a district of Cairo, Egypt. It neighbours Downtown Cairo, Azbakeya, and the River Nile. There are claims that the name Boulaq comes from the French 'Beau Lac', which literally means 'Beautiful Lake', however, the name is much older than the period of French influence starting in the late 18th century.
Zamalek
Zamalek is an affluent, and exclusive district of central Cairo encompassing the northern portion of Gezira Island in the Nile River. The island is connected with the river banks through three bridges each on the east and west sides of the island, including the Qasr al-Nil Bridge and 6th October Bridge.
Museum of Islamic Ceramics
The Museum of Islamic Ceramics is an art museum for ceramics in central Cairo, Egypt. The museum is located in the Zamalek district on Gezira Island in the Nile, just west of Downtown Cairo. It is located in the palace of Prince Amr Ibrahim, built in 1924.

Tahrir Square (English: Liberation Square), also known as "Martyr Square", is a major public town square in Downtown Cairo, Egypt.
Qasr al-Nil Bridge
The Qasr al-Nil Bridge (originally named Khedive Ismail Bridge) spans the Nile River in central Cairo, Egypt. It connects downtown Cairo to Gezira Island and the Zamalek district. At the bridge's east and west approaches there are two large stone lion statues flanking each entrance, they are late 19th century works by Henri Alfred Jacquemart; French sculptor and animalier. The newer and wider 6th October Bridge parallels its route 0.8 kilometres to the south.

2011 Egyptian revolution

Millions of protesters from a variety of socio-economic and religious backgrounds demanded the overthrow of the regime of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Cairo Fire
The Cairo Fire, also known as Black Saturday, was a series of riots that took place on 26 January 1952, marked by the burning and looting of some 750 buildings —retail shops, cafes, cinemas, hotels, restaurants, theatres, nightclubs and the country's Opera House— in Downtown Cairo. The direct trigger of the riots was the killing by British occupation troops of 50 Egyptian auxiliary policemen in the city of Ismaïlia in a one-sided battle a day earlier.
