1959 African Cup of Nations
The 1959 African Cup of Nations was the second edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the football championship of Africa. It was hosted and won by the United Arab Republic, a short-lived confederation between Egypt and Syria. Only three teams participated: host team United Arab Republic, Sudan and Ethiopia. All three matches took place in Cairo.
TWA Flight 903
TWA Flight 903 was a regularly scheduled flight from Bombay (Mumbai), India to New York-Idlewild, via Cairo and Rome-Ciampino. The Star of Maryland, a Lockheed Constellation L-749A, flew the route on the night of August 31, 1950. It departed Cairo at 23:35 for Rome-Ciampino with 55 persons aboard (48 passengers and seven crew members) in good weather.

Sha'ar Hashamayim Synagogue (Cairo)
The Sha'ar Hashamayim Synagogue (lit. Gate of Heaven) is located in Cairo, Egypt. The synagogue was also known as Temple Ismailia and the Adly Street Synagogue. Its long-time leader was Chief Rabbi Chaim Nahum. In 2008, the synagogue marked its 100th anniversary. The synagogue was built in a style evoking ancient Egyptian temples, and was once the largest building on the boulevard. When the synagogue opened in 1899, there was a vibrant Jewish community in Cairo.
6th October Bridge
The 6th October Bridge is an elevated highway in central Cairo, Egypt. The 20.5 kilometres bridge and causeway crosses the Nile River twice from the west bank suburbs, east through Gezira Island to Downtown Cairo, and on to connect the city to the Cairo International Airport to the east. Its name commemorates the date of 'The Crossing' which commenced the outbreak day of the October War in 1973.
Azbakeya
Azbakeya is one of the districts of Cairo, Egypt in the centre of Cairo, and contains many historically important establishments. One of these is the Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral (Azbakeya), which was inaugurated by Pope Mark VIII in 1800. and served as the seat of the Coptic Pope in Cairo from 1800 to 1971. Azbakeya was the place were the first Cairo Opera House was established, until it was burnt in 1970.

Shepheard's Hotel

Khairy Pasha palace
The neo-Mameluk building and former palace of Khairy Pacha is on 113 Qasr el-Aini Street, on Midan el Tahrir, Cairo and has served as the American University in Cairo's (AUC) Tahrir Square campus ('AUC Downtown' since 1920). The building in the photograph on the right was originally the Girls School of the Greek Community of Cairo. In 1964 it was sold to AUC and served as the 'Greek Campus'. Ideally the photograph should be replaced with one of the main AUC building.

Qasr al-Nil Bridge
The Qasr al-Nil Bridge (originally named Khedive Ismail Bridge) spans the Nile River in central Cairo, Egypt. It connects downtown Cairo to Gezira Island and the Zamalek district. At the bridge's east and west approaches there are two large stone lion statues flanking each entrance, they are late 19th century works by Henri Alfred Jacquemart; French sculptor and animalier. The newer and wider 6th October Bridge parallels its route 0.8 kilometres to the south.

The Mogamma
The Mogamma is a government building in Cairo, Egypt. The Mogamma was the result of a series of master plans for the Qasr el Nil area, which used to be occupied by the British Barracks. In 1947 when King Farouk ordered the demolition of the barracks upon the departure of British troops from the area, a series of urban planning proposals ensued. The idea for a centralized all-in-one administrative building emerged from the 1947 plans and construction began in 1948 and ended in 1951.
