It was constructed to recognize the contribution of Zheng He’s voyage by the emperor in Ming Dynasty. In 1842, China’s first unequal treaty Treaty of Nanking was discussed in the temple. It was devastated in the Taiping Rebellion and the Second Sino-Japanese War. In 1988, the People’s Government of Nanjing rebuilt the temple at its original site.

Yuejiang Lou
Yue Jianglou (阅江楼) is a tower on the top of Shizi Mountain (狮子山) next to the Yangtze River. It is a famous place of interest in Nanjing. In 1347, Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of Ming Dynasty, decided to build a tower in Nanjing, but this plan was cancelled afterwards. Finally, the government of Nanjing restarted this project, and in 2001, the construction of Yuejiang Lou was done.
