Chinese Academy of Social Sciences
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, established in 1977, is the premier and the most comprehensive academic research organization and national center in the People's Republic of China for study in the fields of philosophy and social sciences, with the obligation of advancing and innovating in the scientific researches of philosophy, social sciences and policies. It was described by Foreign Policy magazine as the top think tank in Asia. It is affiliated with the PRC's State Council.
Chaoyang District, Beijing
Chaoyang District is a district of the city proper of Beijing. Chaoyang is home to the majority of Beijing's many foreign embassies, the well-known Sanlitun bar street, as well as Beijing's growing CBD. The Olympic Green, built for the 2008 Summer Olympics, is also in Chaoyang. Chaoyang extends west to Chaoyangmen on the eastern 2nd Ring Road, and nearly as far east as the Ximazhuang toll station on the Jingtong Expressway.
Jianguomen
Jianguomen, or the "Gate for the Nation Building" in Chinese, was a gate in the city wall that once stood in Beijing which is now a transportation hub to the east of city centre. At the Jianguomen bridge, the eastern 2nd Ring Road divides Jianguomen Inner Street to the west from Jianguomen Outer Street to the east. The Jianguomen Station of the Beijing Subway is an interchange station for Lines 1 and 2 of the Beijing Subway.
Temple of the Sun
The Temple of the Sun is located in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China. It is within Ritan Park, in the Jianguomen area. The nearest Beijing Metro station is Yonganli on the Beijing subway Line 1. The temple's altar was built in 1530 during the late Ming Dynasty for use in ritual sacrifice to the sun by the Emperor of China. The area surrounding the Ritan temple is now a public park, and the site features extensive gardens and a small lake.
Yabaolu
Yabaolu is a street and area in Beijing, China, running from Chaoyangmenwai to Jianguomenwai. The south part of Yabaolu is home to Beijing Children's Hospital. On the west side of Yabaolu lies Ritan Park. As of 2011 the community has many high rise shopping malls and shops, is a major hub of trade. Previously it was a community of one story courtyards with little activity.
Workers Stadium
The Workers Stadium, often called Gongti or Gong Ti, is a multi-purpose stadium in the Chaoyang District of north-eastern Beijing, China. It is mostly used for football (soccer) matches. The stadium was built in 1959 and was last renovated in 2004 (the concrete structure was strengthened, a new rotating display screen and energy-saving devices were installed). It has a capacity of 66,161 and covers a land area of 350,000 square meters.
Zhihua Temple
The Zhihua Temple is a Ming Dynasty-era Buddhist temple in Beijing, China. It is located in the Lumicang (禄米仓) hutong, in the Chaoyangmen area of the Dongcheng District, within the Second Ring Road to the north of Jinbaojie Street, west of the Yabaolu area. The temple was built in 1443 at the order of Wang Zhen, a powerful eunuch in the Rites Supervising Office of the court of the Zhengtong Emperor (also known as Yingzong; reigned 1436-1449 and 1457-1464).
Beijing Ancient Observatory
The Beijing Ancient Observatory is a pretelescopic observatory located in Beijing, China. The revolutionary tools used within this ancient observatory were built in 1442 during the Ming Dynasty, and later amended during the Qing. As one of the oldest observatories in the world, the Beijing Ancient Observatory grounds cover an area of 10,000 square meters.
Workers Indoor Arena
The Workers' Indoor Arena, also known as Beijing Workers' Gymnasium, is an indoor arena located west of the Workers Stadium in Beijing, China. It was inaugurated in 1961 for the 26th World Table Tennis Championships. It hosted the boxing events at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the Judo events at the 2008 Summer Paralympics. It is one of 11 Beijing-based venues to be renovated and upgraded for the Olympics. The arena has a maximum seating capacity of 13,000.
Beijing Dongyue Temple
The Beijing Dongyue Temple is a Daoist (Taoist) temple in the Chaowai area, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China. The temple is dedicated to the God of Mount Tai. "Dongyue" is a synonym for Mount Tai, the easternmost and holiest of the Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism. Founded during the Yuan Dynasty, the Dongyue Temple is the largest temple of the Zhengyi school of Taoism in northern China and protected as a National Key Cultural Relict. The temple also serves as the Beijing Folk Customs Museum.
Beijing Chen Jing Lun High School
Beijing Chen Jing Lun High School, is a high school located in the downtown Central Business District, Beijing, People's Republic of China and one of the first in series of beacon high schools in Beijing. Founded in 1921 by Japanese philanthropist Yasuzo Shimizu, the school has undergone a series of name changes from the original Chong Zhen School (崇祯学园), to Beijing Female No.4 High School (北京女子第四中学) in 1949 and Chao Yang High School (朝阳中学) during the Cultural Revolution.
