St. Lawrence is a neighbourhood located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The area, a former industrial area, is bounded by Yonge, Front, and Parliament Streets, and the Canadian National railway embankment. The Esplanade off Yonge St. , lined with restaurants, cafés and hotels runs through the middle of the area. In previous times, the area was sometimes referred to as 'St. Lawrence Ward' or more often today as 'St.

Cathedral Church of St. James in Toronto, Canada is the home of the oldest congregation in the city. The parish was established in 1797. The Cathedral was begun in 1850 and completed in 1853, was at the time one of the largest buildings in the city. It was designed by Frederick William Cumberland and is a prime example of Gothic Revival architecture. It opened for services on 19 June 1853.
St. Lawrence Hall
St. Lawrence Hall is a meeting hall in Toronto, Canada next to the St. Lawrence Market. It was built, alongside the new city hall, in 1850 after an 1849 fire destroyed much of the market. The Renaissance Revival style building was designed by William Thomas. It was created to be Toronto's public meeting hall home to public gatherings, concerts, and exhibitions. Its main feature was a thousand seat amphitheater. For decades the hall was the centre of Toronto's social life.
St. Lawrence Market South
St. Lawrence Market is one of two major markets in Toronto (the other being Kensington Market). It is located on the southwest corner of Front and Lower Jarvis Streets. It was established in the early part of the city's history and was once home to Toronto's first permanent city hall and jail house from 1845 to 1899.
Daniel Brooke Building
Daniel Brooke Building is a historic Georgian building of Toronto, Canada located at Jarvis and King Streets. Built in 1833 for owners Daniel Brooke and John Murchison, it is one of the last remaining buildings of the old Town of York. It was one of only a handful of buildings in the part of town to survive the Toronto Fire of 1849. The building has been home to a number of commercial enterprises. It was the site of James Austin and Patrick Foy's grocery store.
First Toronto Post Office
Toronto's First Post Office (or Fourth York Post Office) is the oldest purpose-built post office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the only surviving example of a post office that functioned as a department of the British Royal Mail. The building was built between 1833 to 1834, with construction commencing before York became the City of Toronto.
Bank of Upper Canada Building
The Bank of Upper Canada Building, built by John Ewart (architect), is one of the oldest financial service buildings in Toronto, Canada. Built in 1827-34, it housed the Bank of Upper Canada until the bank's collapse in 1866. It is located at 252 Adelaide Street East. It has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada since 1977. The building was abandoned, later used as a meat processing plant, then damaged by a fire. It was also home to a Catholic boys school, and De LaSalle Institute.
George Brown Theatre School
George Brown Theatre School is a drama school and department of George Brown College in Toronto. Both schools are named after the Canadian politician and journalist George Brown. Founded in 1976 under the artistic leadership of veteran actor, director Joseph Shaw, the two-year acting program was originally housed at the Kensington Campus of George Brown College. It moved to an old Christie's Warehouse space which had been refurbished for the program at 530 King Street East the following year.

Beard Building
The Beard Building is regarded as Toronto's first skyscraper, and was completed in 1894. Designed by E.J. Lennox, It was planned to be a nine-storey, iron-framed structure, but it only reached seven storeys when completed and was a more traditional wood/brick combination. The Beard Building was a bank at street level, a commercial and office tower, and a hotel. The building was named after George Beard, the original landowner of the site at Jarvis St. and King St. East.
St. Lawrence Market North
St. Lawerence Market North in Toronto was built in 1968, replacing the former 1904 building. It hosts a variety of markets, including a Farmer's Market, an antique market and Christmas trees daily from mid-Nov. to Dec. 24th.
Great Fire of Toronto (1849)
Great Fire of Toronto (1849) was the first major fire to destroy part of the city of Toronto, Canada, and the second in the 19th century. The fire began at Post's Tavern, east of Jarvis Street and north of King Street in the early morning of April 7, 1849. This area, known as Market Block, was the city's early core. The fire destroyed buildings bounded by King Street East to the south, Church Street to the west, Adelaide Street East to the North, and Jarvis Street to the east.
