Corktown, Toronto
Corktown is a residential neighbourhood in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is just south of Regent Park and north of the Gardiner Expressway, between Berkeley Street to the west and the Don River to the east, Shuter Street to Lake Shore Boulevard East, this area also includes the Distillery District. Corktown contains many vacated industrial buildings, some in use by production and movie studios.
Distillery District
The Distillery District is a historic and entertainment precinct located east of Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It contains numerous cafés, restaurants, and shops housed within heritage buildings of the former Gooderham and Worts Distillery. The 13-acre (52,000 sq. m) district comprises more than 40 heritage buildings and 10 streets, and is the largest collection of Victorian-era industrial architecture in North America. The district was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1988.
Old Eastern Avenue Bridge
The Old Eastern Avenue Bridge is actually two bridges spanning the Don River in Toronto, Canada. The southern Truss bridge is unused but once carried traffic on Eastern Avenue. The north bridge is a concrete arch bridge and is used by Enbridge Gas to carry a major gas main and the south a Truss bridge similar to Queen Street Viaduct and Bathurst Street Bridge.
Victory Soya Mills Silos
Victory Soya Mills Silos in the east end of Toronto's harbourfront is one of the two remaining silos from Toronto's industrial port era. They were built by E.P. Taylor Victory Mills company in 1943 to house the soy beans used by a large plant that reprocessed the soy for a variety of purposes. The abandoned silos have been a temporary home for the homeless and abandoned since the 1980s. Although a heritage site, there are no plans to renovate or reuse the building.
CFMZ-FM
CFMZ-FM is a Canadian radio station, that broadcasts classical music at 96.3 FM in Toronto. The station is branded as The New Classical 96.3 FM. Cobourg, Ontario radio station CFMX has been broadcasting continuously since 1982, although it had gone on the air and off again, several times, between 1976 and 1982. CFMZ first aired in 1988 as a rebroadcaster of Cobourg's CFMX, with the call sign CFMX-FM-1. The station was originally licensed to Mississauga, the transmitter location.
Young Centre for the Performing Arts
The Young Centre for the Performing Arts is a theatre in the Distillery District in downtown Toronto, Canada. It is a brand-new theatre built into 19th century era Victorian industrial buildings. It is home to the Soulpepper Theatre Company and the theatre school at George Brown College.
Inglenook Community High School
Inglenook Community High School is a Toronto public high school which offers grade 11 and 12 level courses. It is housed in an historical building designed by William George Storm in Corktown, in downtown Toronto, Canada. The school has, on average, one hundred students and six teachers. It is located in the oldest continually-operated school building of the Toronto District School Board.
West Don Lands
The West Don Lands are the site of a planned neighbourhood under construction in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The area is bordered by the Don River, King Street, Parliament Street and the rail line adjacent to the Gardiner Expressway. The region was originally a large city park in the old city of York. It was sold off to private developers in the 1830s to finance the construction of a new city hospital.
Theatre Museum Canada
The Theatre Museum Canada was founded by Herbert Whittaker in 1982, for the purpose of preserving and celebrating Canada's theatrical cultural heritage. The museum's honorary patron is Christopher Plummer. One of Theatre Museum Canada's ongoing projects is the Legends Library, which consists of filmed interviews of Canadian theatre icons such as William Hutt and Robert LePage. In addition to their online exhibits, the museum tours exhibits to various venues in Toronto.
Enoch Turner School
Enoch Turner Schoolhouse is an historic site and museum owned by the Ontario Heritage Trust. The school was built in 1848, when it was known as the Ward School. The building is located at 106 Trinity Street between King St. E. and Eastern Ave in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
Cherry Street lift bridge
The Cherry Street lift bridge over the Keating Channel is the smaller of two bascule lift bridges on Cherry Street, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 1995 several changes were made to provide "enhanced safety for cyclists, skaters and pedestrians. " As built the entire deck of the bridge, including the sidewalk, was a steel mesh.
Underpass Park
Underpass Park is a new public space located beneath the overpasses of Adelaide Street, Eastern Avenue, and Richmond Street in the West Don Lands neighbourhood of Toronto. The first phase of the development features a playground, basketball courts and skate park, and was officially opened by Toronto Mayor Rob Ford on August 2, 2012. The park is an initiative of Waterfront Toronto, and is the 18th public space that the group has built or revitalized since 2005 in the Toronto waterfront district.
