Halifax Explosion
The Halifax Explosion occurred on the morning of Thursday, December 6, 1917. SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship fully laden with wartime explosives, collided with the Norwegian vessel SS Imo in the Narrows, a strait connecting the upper Halifax Harbour to Bedford Basin. Approximately twenty minutes later, a fire on board the French ship ignited her volatile cargo, causing a cataclysmic explosion that devastated the Richmond District of Halifax.
Bedford Institute of Oceanography
The Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) is a major Government of Canada ocean research facility located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. BIO is the largest ocean research station in Canada. Established in 1962 as Canada's first, and currently largest, federal centre for oceanographic research, BIO derives its name from the Bedford Basin, an inland bay comprising the northern part of Halifax Harbour, upon which it is located.

Burnside is a Canadian urban neighbourhood located along the northeast shore of Bedford Basin in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality. Officially still termed a dispersed rural community, Burnside has been the location of a major concentration of industry and commercial development since the 1970 completion of the Mackay Bridge near the previously existing Industrial Estate, which had only 4 enterprises prior to the bridge opening.
Shannon Park, Nova Scotia
Shannon Park is a former military community on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is immediately south of the A. Murray MacKay Bridge in the city of Dartmouth. It straddles several transportation routes, namely, Highway 111 and a CN Rail freight line, as well as Halifax Harbour and is bordered on the south by Tuft's Cove. Although presently unused, Shannon Park remains part of the CFB Halifax defence complex.
Wallace Heights, Nova Scotia
Wallace Heights is a Canadian urban neighbourhood in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality. Wallace Heights is situated immediately north of Shannon Hill at the southern end of the Bedford Basin, around the northern side of the MacKay bridge in the former city of Dartmouth. It was established by the Department of National Defence in the 1950s to house Royal Canadian Navy personnel attached to the Halifax naval base.

Harbour View Elementary School

Raid on Dartmouth (1751)
The Raid on Dartmouth (also referred to as the Dartmouth Massacre) occurred during Father Le Loutre’s War on May 13, 1751 when an Acadian and Mi’kmaq militia from Chignecto, under the command of Acadian Joseph Broussard, raided Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, destroying the town and killing twenty British villagers. This raid was one of seven the Natives and Acadians would conduct against the town during the war.
Tufts Cove, Nova Scotia
Tufts Cove is a Canadian urban neighbourhood in the Dartmouth area of Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality. It is situated on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour in the North End of Dartmouth. The neighbourhood boundaries of Tufts Cove are approximately from Albro Lake Road in the south to Highway 111 in the north, and from Victoria Road in the east with the harbour to the west. The area was named after the prominent Tufts family of Boston. Gershom Tufts came to Dartmouth in 1749.
