Fort Anne
For a similarly named fort in New York City see: Fort Amsterdam Fort Anne is a typical star fort built to protect the harbour of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. The fort repelled all French attacks during the early stages of King George's War. Now designated a National Historic Site of Canada, it is managed by Parks Canada. The 1797 officer's quarters was renovated in the 1930s and now house the museum with exhibits about the fort's history and historic artifacts from the area.

It is located next to the old Court House, at the intersection of George St. and Nova Scotia Trunk 1. Initially used as a burial ground for French military forces, it has since been used by Acadians, the British military and the parish of St. Lukes. The earliest remaining tombstone is from 1720, that of Bethiah Douglass who died October 1, 1720 in her 37th year.

The Siege of Annapolis Royal (also known as the Siege of Fort Anne) in 1744 involved two of four attempts by the French, along with their Acadian and native allies, to regain the capital of Nova Scotia/Acadia, Annapolis Royal, during King George's War. The Siege is noted for Governor of Nova Scotia Paul Mascarene successfully defending the last British outpost in the colony and for the first arrival of New England Ranger John Gorham to Nova Scotia.

During the siege William Pote was taken prisoner and wrote one of the rare captivity narratives that exist from Nova Scoia and Acadia.
