Berens River is located in Manitoba, Canada, along the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg. This community is near the mouth of the Berens River, which flows west from the Ontario headwaters. The town is accessible only by winter road, boat, or airplane. Recently a project has been announced to construct a dual-lane highway from Bloodvein, connecting Berens River to the continental road system.

Berens River First Nation is located on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg at the mouth of Berens River. The First Nation has territory at two sites: Berens River 13 with 2546.9 hectares and Pigeon River 13A with 344.8 hectares and is governed by a Chief and five councillors. Berens River is a member of the Southeast Resource Development Council with offices in Winnipeg. This Tribal Council has 9 member First Nations.
