Pernik Province is a province in western Bulgaria, neighbouring Serbia. Its main city is Pernik, and other municipalities are Breznik, Kovachevtsi, Radomir, Tran, and Zemen.
Boyana Church
The Boyana Church (Bulgarian: Боянска църква, Boyanska tsarkva) is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church situated on the outskirts of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, in the Boyana quarter. The east wing of the two-storey church was originally constructed in the late 10th or early 11th century, then the central wing was added in the 13th century under the Second Bulgarian Empire, the whole building being finished with a further expansion to the west in the middle of the 19th century.
Chervena Mogila
Chervena Mogila is a village located near the town of Radomir in Pernik Province, Bulgaria. It is a host of an important power substation in the region and the Chervena Mogila Industrial Complex. The complex employed some 12,000 workers, but as of 2008 their number had dropped to 1,300. Most of the production is concentrated around components for nuclear power plants and atomic technology.
Central and East European Center for Cognitive Science
The Central and East European Center for Cognitive Science (also as CEEC of Cognitive Science) at the New Bulgarian University undertakes research in fundamental and applied cognitive science. Research topics include: memory, thinking, language, learning, perception, context, applications to robotics, AI, and cognitive systems, cognitive economics, human factors and usability, education and learning methods. The Center is co-directed by Boicho Kokinov and Jeff Elman.
Vitosha Mountain TV Tower
Vitosha Mountain TV Tower, better known as Kopitoto (Bulgarian: Копитото, "The Hoof") after the rock outcrop (1,348 m) it stands on, is a 186 meter tall TV tower built of reinforced concrete on Vitosha Mountain near Sofia, Bulgaria. The footprint of the tower has the shape of a hexagon with three of the sides extended (i.e. almost triangular). From the tower there is a commanding view of Sofia, and the tower can be seen from everywhere in Sofia, making it a landmark of Sofia's skyline.
Boyana
Boyana is a neighbourhood of the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, part of Vitosha municipality and situated 8 km south of the city centre, in the outskirts of Vitosha. Boyana is typically regarded as one of the best and most expensive neighborhoods of Sofia to live in. The residents are primarily wealthy business people, government officials and other important members of the Bulgarian social and political life. Formerly a village, it was incorporated into Sofia in 1961.

New Bulgarian University
New Bulgarian University (Bulgarian: Нов български университет, also known and abbreviated as НБУ, NBU) is a private university based in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. NBU is the first private university in Bulgaria and among the top rated by Bulgarian business universities in the country. As of 2004, the university had 7,551 current students and 3,201 graduates. The university's campus is in the Ovcha kupel municipality in western Sofia and consists of two main buildings.
Lyulin Mountain
Lyulin (Bulgarian: Люлин or Люлин планина) is a range of hills in western Bulgaria, located several kilometres west of Sofia. The highest point is Dupevitsa Peak (1,256 m). The Buchino Pass divides the hills into two, a western and an eastern part. Bonsovi Polyani are a popular tourist attraction. On the slopes of Liulin are some of the most beautiful quarters of Sofia - Knyazhevo, Gorna Banya and Bankya, known with their mineral springs.
Cherni Vrah
Cherni Vrah (Bulgarian: Черни връх / ‘Black Peak’) is the summit of Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria. Rising to 2290 m, the peak is the fourth highest mountain summit in the country after Musala, Vihren, and Botev Vrah. Cherni Vrah is bounded to the northwest by Torfeno Branishte (Turf Nature Reserve) which — like the extensive adjacent territory to the south — is a no-go drinking water catchment area.
Vitosha, Sofia
Vitosha is one of the 24 districts of Sofia, situated in the southern parts of the City on the foot of the Vitosha mountain. As of 2006 it has 42,953 inhabitants. The district includes 7 neighbourhoods: Boyana; Simeonovo; Dragalevtsi; Pavlovo; Buxton; Manastirski Livadi and Knyazhevo as well as two villages Vladaya and Marchaevo. It is among the richest and greenest districts in Sofia and Bulgaria with many beautiful residences, houses, villas and residential complexes.
Ovcha kupel
Ovcha Kupel is a district located in the south-western parts of Sofia. As of 2006 it has 47,380 inhabitants. It is located at 6 km to the south-west of the City centre. The district is home of Slavia Sofia, one of the oldest football clubs in the country with a 30,000 stadium. The New Bulgarian University with more than 7,000 students is situated there. There are 9 schools and 5 chitalishta. Sheep fonts is one of the western suburbs of Sofia.
Marchaevo
Marchaevo is a village located in the Vitosha municipality in the southern parts of the capital Sofia. As of 2006 it has 1,308 inhabitants.
Zlatnite Mostove
Zlatnite Mostove (Bulgarian: Златните мостове, ‘Golden Bridges’) is the largest stone river on Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria. The feature is situated in the valley of Vladayska River, extending 2.2 km, and up to 150 m wide, with several ‘tributary’ stone rivers. The stone river is ‘descending’ from elevation 1800 m above sea level in Boeritsa Chalet area to 1410 m at Zlatnite Mostove site.
Boyanska reka
The Boyanska reka is a river in western Bulgaria, a tributary to Vladayska River. The river flows from the northern slopes of Cherni Vrah on Vitosha Mountain, crossing Torfeno Branishte Nature Reserve; at the northern foothills of Vitosha the river drops forming the Boyana waterfall and then crosses the village of Boyana (part of Sofia, from which the river takes its name) to flow into Vladayska River in the Sofia district of Ovcha Kupel.
Kamen Del
Kamen Del (Bulgarian: Камен Дел / ‘Stone Piece’) is a peak on Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria. Rising to 1,862 metres, and surmounting the city of Sofia, it is the most conspicuous peak seen from the Bulgarian capital. Its northern slope is partly covered by an extensive one by one km stone sea. A flat col links Kamen Del to Ushite Peak 1,960 metres to the south, hosting a small refuge on the track between Aleko and Zlatnite Mostove, the two most popular tourist sites on Vitosha.
Bistrishko Branishte
Bistrishko Branishte is a nature reserve on Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria comprising the eastern slopes of Golyam Rezen (2277 m), Malak Rezen (2191 m) and Skoparnik (2226 m) Peaks, the northern slopes of Golyam Kupen Peak (1930 m), and the upper valleys of Vitoshka Bistritsa River and Yanchevska River. Surface area 1061.6 ha, elevation between 1430 and 2277 m. The reserve was established in 1934, together with Vitosha Nature Park of which it is a part.
Selimitsa
Selimitsa is a peak rising to 2,041 m west of Torfeno Branishte Nature Reserve in northwestern Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria. The northern slopes of the peak are occupied by the ski runs of Konyarnika Ski Centre. Linked by tracks to Kumata Chalet and Zlatnite Mostove Tourist Centre to the north, Selimitsa Chalet, Kladnitsa Monastery and Kladnitsa Village to the west, Matnitsa River valley and Chuypetlovo Village to the south, and the mountain's summit Cherni Vrah to the east.
Torfeno Branishte
Torfeno Branishte (Bulgarian: Торфено бранище / ‘Turf Reserve’) is a nature reserve on Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria, along with the Bistrishko Branishte reserve. The reserve has a surface area of 728.8 ha comprising the parts of Big Plateau and the Kapaklivets Plateau between the peaks of Cherni Vrah (2290 m), Ushite (1906 m), and Chernata Skala (1869 m), including the upper watersheds of the Vladayska, Boyanska and Dragalevska Rivers.
Chuypetlovo
Chuypetlovo (Bulgarian: Чуйпетлово, "Hear the rooster") is a village in the Pernik municipality of Pernik Province, western Bulgaria. Its population is 57 as of January 2007. Chuypetlovo is the only settlement in the interior of Vitosha Mountain, situated at elevation 1,225 m near the head of Struma River valley.
Ushite Peak
Ushite Peak (Bulgarian: Връх Ушите / ‘Ears Peak’) is a peak rising to 1,860 metres in northern Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria. The peak is situated on the northern border of Torfeno Branishte Nature Reserve, and 650 m south of Kamen Del Peak. A small refuge is situated on the northeastern slopes Ushite, off track between Aleko and Zlatnite Mostove, the two most popular tourist sites on Vitosha.
Minyor Stadium
Minyor Stadium (nicknamed The Stadium of Peace) is a multi-purpose stadium in Pernik, Bulgaria. It is currently used for football matches and is the home ground of the local football club Minyor Pernik. The stadium has a capacity of 8,000 spectators and it was officially inaugurated on May 30, 1954.

The 2012 Pernik earthquake was a 5.6 Mw magnitude earthquake, which struck 24 km (15 miles) west of Bulgaria's capital Sofia and 9 km (6 miles) north-northwest of the provincial center Pernik on 22 May 2012 at 3:00 am local time at a depth of 9.4 kilometers .
