Deûle
The Deûle is a river of northern France which is channeled for the main part of its course. The upstream part is still partly free-flowing and is known as the Souchez. The Deûle flows into the Lys (right bank) in Deûlémont. The Souchez is formed from the union, in the village Souchez, of two smaller brooks, Carency and Saint-Nazaire.
Warneton, Belgium
Warneton (in Dutch Waasten, in Picard Varnetån or Warneuton) is part of the Belgian municipality of Comines-Warneton in Wallonia in the province of Hainaut. It was a municipality of its own until the 1977 merger of Belgian municipalities.
Canal de la Deûle
The Canal de la Deûle is a canal in northern France connecting Bauvin to the Belgian border near Deûlémont. It is 35.8 km with 3 locks. It may also be called the liaison Bauvin-Lys. South of Bauvin, the canal continues as part of the Canal Dunkerque-Escaut until it reaches Douai. Parts of the Deule were made navigatible as early as the 13th century. It was linked with the Scarpe in the 17th century and the Lys river in the 18th.
