Steenkerque
Steenkerque is a Belgian village 50 km south-west of Brussels, 10 km south of Enghien. Steenkerque is presently part of the municipality of Braine-le-Comte, province of Hainaut, Wallonia. Steenkerque is notable for the Battle of Steenkerque in 1692 during the Nine Years War. A Steinkirk was a type of cravat designed to be worn in deliberate disarray. The fashion apparently began after troops at the battle in 1692 had no time to tie their cravats properly before going into action.
