Prince-Bishopric of Liège
The Prince-Bishopric of Liège was a state of the Holy Roman Empire in the Low Countries in present Belgium, which was ruled by the Bishop of Liège as a prince within the Holy Roman Empire. The ecclesiastical domain of the bishop was much larger than the domain which he controlled as a prince.
Hollogne-aux-Pierres
Hollogne-aux-Pierres is a former Walloon municipality of Belgium, now merged with Grâce-Hollogne. It is in this area that the police, on 30 July 1950, opened fire on the inhabitants of Grâce-Berleur, killing four people. Lantin Prison
Lantin Prison is a minimum detention centre located in Lantin near Liège in Belgium. The prison holds 694 male prisoners and 61 female prisoners. In July 2007, deaths from heroin and cocaine were reported within the prison. 2008 brought further negative news coverage for the prison as 100 out of 1000 staff members tested positive on a skin test for tuberculosis, although a positive test does not mean that the person will necessarily develop the full disease.
Waroux Castle
Waroux Castle is a castle in Belgium, located in Alleur in the municipality of Ans, province of Liège, and the old region of Hesbaye. Waroux was one of the rare circular castles in Belgium. The keep still remains of the medieval structure. For centuries it was the property of the de Waroux family until 1525, when it died by marriage. In 1696 it was apparently acquired by the De Clerkx de Waroux family, who remained the owners until 1925.
Stade Vélodrome de Rocourt
Stade Vélodrome de Rocourt, also known as Stade Jules Georges, was a multi-use stadium in Liège, Belgium. It was initially used as the stadium of R.F.C. de Liège matches. It was closed in 1995. The capacity of the stadium was 40,000 spectators. The UCI Track Cycling World Championships were held on the velodrome on four occasions: 1950, 1957, 1963 and 1975.
Rocourt, Liège
Rocourt is a suburb of the Belgian town Liège. It is a former municipality which has been part of the municipality of Liège since 1977. Formerly known as Rocoux or Roucoux, it was the site of the battle of Rocoux in 1746, during the War of the Austrian Succession. It is now known for its maternity hospital, one of the biggest in Belgium, where a few famous people were born, such as Justine Henin, Marie Gillain and David Goffin.
