Battle of Sluys
The decisive naval Battle of Sluys, also called Battle of l'Ecluse, was fought on 24 June 1340 as one of the opening conflicts of the Hundred Years' War. It is historically important in that it resulted in the destruction of most of France's fleet, making a French invasion of England impossible, and ensuring that the remainder of the war would be fought mostly in France.
Battle of Damme
The Battle of Damme was fought on 30 May and 31 May 1213. The success of the English raids ended a threat of French invasion of England. The English knew King Philip II of France was planning to invade England, at the very least as a way of preventing an English attack on Poitou.
