Chittagong

Chittagong (Bengali: চাটগাও,Chatgaon, চট্টগ্রাম, Chôţţogram) is the main seaport and second largest city in Bangladesh. Located in southeastern Bangladesh, it straddles the hills at the mouth of the Karnaphuli River and is bounded by the Bay of Bengal to the west. The city has an estimated population of over 6.5 million people and is the administrative capital of Chittagong Division. An ancient and historic gateway to Bengal, Chittagong was a major port on the silk route.

Chittagong College

Chittagong College is a college in Bangladesh. It is the second college established in Bangladesh after Dhaka College. Having begun as Chittagong District school in 1836, it became an intermediate college in 1869. It started providing science education in intermediate section from the 1909 and became a graduation college in 1910. The college teaches honors and masters degree in 16 subjects. It is continuing its intermediate course.

Bangladesh Military Academy

Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) is the training institute for the officer cadets of Bangladesh Army. It is located in Bhatiary, near Chittagong HIll Tracts, in the Chittagong District of south-east Bangladesh, about 13 kilometres north of Chittagong. The Academy is situated on the slopes of the Sitakunda hill ranges and the shore of the Bay of Bengal. The Academy was initially raised at Comilla Cantonment on 29 November 1973 and later relocated at Bhatiary in 1976.

Foy's Lake

Foy's Lake is a man-made lake in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It was created in 1924 by constructing a dam across the stream that came down from the hills in the northern part of Chittagong. The purpose of creating an artificial lake was to provide water to the residence of railway colony. It was named after Mr Foy who was a Railway engineer and believed to materialized the project. Pahartali was basically a railway town with workshop, yard and shed. A good number of railway employees lives there.

SS Clan Alpine (1942)

Clan Alpine was a 7,168 GRT cargo ship which was built in 1942 for the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT) as Empire Barrie. She was sold to Clan Line Steamers Ltd in 1947 and served with them until 1957 when she was sold to Bullard, King & Co Ltd and renamed Umvoti. In 1959 she was sold back to Clan Line and renamed Clan Alpine. She was sold for scrap in 1960 and wrecked in a cyclone in October 1960 at Chittagong, East Pakistan, finally being scrapped in February 1961.
