City of Cockburn
The City of Cockburn is a local government area in the southern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth about 8 kilometres south of Fremantle and about 24 kilometres south of Perth's central business district. The City covers an area of 167.5 square kilometres and has a population of 89,683 (2011).
Casuarina Prison
Casuarina Prison is the main maximum security prison for Western Australia, located near Perth. The prison accommodates minimum, medium and maximum security prisoners and was opened in 1991 to replace Fremantle Prison. The prison featured in the documentary, Australia's Hardest Prison: Lockdown Oz on the National Geographic channel in 2008, following the lives of prisoners and officers.

Calista is a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kwinana. Calista is one of the Kwinana suburbs named after a ship. The Calista was one of the first ships to bring settlers to the Swan River Colony. She arrived with 73 passengers on 5 August 1829 under the command of Captain S. Hawkins. Two of the most notable passengers on the ship were Lionel and William Samson.

The "Casuarina", under the command of Louis De Freycinet, was a 30 ton cutter used in the French exploration of the WA coast in 1802-03. Mandogalup, Western Australia
Mandogalup is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the Town of Kwinana. Its postcode is 6167. The area of this suburb was originally referred to as "7 Mile Camp", but when a townsite was declared here in 1923 it was named "Balmanup". Lake Balmanup was an alternative name for Mandogalup Swamp. In 1945 it was found that the townsite was more commonly known as Mandogalup and it was changed to Mandogalup in 1946. It is an Aboriginal name, the meaning of which is unknown.

The brig Leda brought settlers to the new Swan River Colony in January 1830. The suburb name was approved in 1969. The name Leda is appropriate for a ship which brought colonists to the Swan River. In Greek mythology Leda is associated with swans because the god Zeus came to her in the guise of a swan.

Orelia is part of the 'hyper growth' region in Kwinana and is currently ranked as a highly favourable area for property investment and affordable housing.

Postans is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the Town of Kwinana. The suburb is named after George Postans who was one of the first settlers in the area. He arrived in the Colony as a convict in 1850 and after he was released he bought 100 acres of land in 1882. The suburb was formerly known as "Caledonia".

Wandi is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the Town of Kwinana at the Northern border. The suburb was approved on 14 March 1978. The suburb is zoned Special Rural, which prevents the loss of trees from clearing. The area is mainly divided into 5 acre lots. The land of Wandi is bushland, and some of it is part of the Jandakot Regional Park. The Western boundary is the Kwinana Freeway.

The suburb name commemorates an early settler, John Wellard, who in 1860 owned Serpentine Farm about 7.5 km southeast of the suburb. A government townsite with his name was declared in 1923 but cancelled in 1960. Wellard was approved as a suburb name in March 1978. At the time of the 2006 census there were 1,660 people living in the suburb of Wellard.

The area was part of the drainage scheme that contributed to the Peel Estuary environmental task and the consequent Dawesville Cut.
Gilmore College
Gilmore College formerly known as Kwinana Senior High School is a public co-educational high school in Western Australia. The school is located on Meares Avenue in the suburb of Orelia. The school was established in 1956 and caters for students in Year 7 to 12. The number of student enrolments have been erratic over the last five years. The school enrolled 780 students in 2007, then 1204 in 2008, to 1075 in 2009, then fell to 986 in 2010 and to 957 in 2011.
