Yarra Ranges National Park
Yarra Ranges is a national park in Victoria, Australia, 92 km east of Melbourne. It covers the headwaters of the Yarra River in the ranges themselves and several water catchments for Melbourne's domestic water supply. Whilst the park was established only in 1995, the area has been protected for a century to protect Melbourne's water. Almost all of the park is closed-off to visitors for this reason, however the park is one of the most popular day trip destinations for Melbourne residents.
Marysville, Victoria
Marysville is a small town, 34 kilometres north-east of Healesville, in the Shire of Murrindindi in Victoria, Australia. The town, which previously had a population of around 500 people, was devastated by the Murrindindi Mill bushfire on 7 February 2009. On 19 February 2009 the official death toll was 45. Around 90% of the town's buildings were destroyed.
Lake Mountain
Lake Mountain is a cross-country ski resort in Victoria 120 km from Melbourne. It is the most popular ski resort in Australia in visitor numbers due to its proximity to the populous city of Melbourne, mainly from casual visitors. Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is an Unincorporated area of Victoria surrounded by the Shire of Murrindindi. There is no lake at Lake Mountain, the area was named after George Lake, who was the Surveyor-General of the area including the mountain.
Upper Yarra Reservoir
The Upper Yarra Reservoir is located east of Melbourne, beyond Warburton within the locality of Reefton. Water from Upper Yarra Reservoir supplies towns in the upper Yarra Valley, and Silvan Reservoir, which transfers water to most parts of Melbourne. Upper Yarra Reservoir has a capacity of 200,000 megalitres (million litres) and was completed in 1957, initially for the purpose of preventing flooding downstream.
Steavenson Falls
Steavenson Falls are one of the tallest in Victoria, with 5 cascades, a total descent of 122 metres, the last having a clear drop of more than 21 metres. The Steavenson Falls are definitely Marysville's main claim to tourism fame and have been since European arrival in Marysville. Residents cut a track to the falls in 1866. Since then the natural environs of the Falls and their approach have not altered dramatically.
Cambarville, Victoria
Cambarville is a bounded rural locality in Victoria, Australia. Much of its area is part of the Yarra Ranges National Park. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Yarra Ranges. It is notable for its giant Mountain Ash trees within the Cumberland Memorial Scenic Reserve, and relics from former sawmills and gold mining. The Big Culvert is located nearby on the Marysville - Woods Point Road, which was historically part of the Yarra Track.
