Kinglake National Park

Kinglake is a national park in Victoria, Australia, 50 kilometres northeast of Melbourne. The park includes tracks (some with wheelchair access), and camping facilities. The national park includes Masons Falls, a picnic area with falls and natural flora. Layered sediment forms the valley, containing fossils from when the area was once covered by the sea. Natural fauna includes wallaby, kangaroo, wombat, possum and echidna.

The castle was constructed from mud and clay in around 1846 by two men named Hannaford and Edwards, each of whom had recently arrived from Devon, England. It was built for the pastoralist John Bear. The castle is approximately 12 square metres in area, and has parapets and turrets on each corner. In around 1900 the parapets and a castellated tower were removed.

Yan Yean Reservoir

Yan Yean Reservoir is the oldest water supply for the city of Melbourne, Australia. It is built on the Plenty River a tributary of the Yarra River, 30 km north of the city. A 9.5 metre embankment holds back 30,000 megalitres (30 million cubic metres) of water. Work began in 1853 at the height of the gold rush, and it took four years to construct at a cost of £750,000. The reservoir is managed by Melbourne Water as part of the water supply system for Melbourne.
