It is the administrative centre of the Shire of Melton local government area and its most populous centre. At the 2006 Census the urban area, with the locality of Melton at its heart, had a population of 35,490. Melton is considered part of the Greater Melbourne metropolitan area and is included in the capital's population statistical division.

Division of Lalor
The Division of Lalor is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Victoria. It is located in the outer western suburbs of Melbourne. It includes the suburbs of Werribee, Point Cook, Laverton, Rockbank and Melton. The Division was proclaimed at the redistribution of 11 May 1949, and was first contested at the 1949 Federal election. It was named after Peter Lalor, the leader of the miners at the Eureka Stockade, and a former member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly.

Toolern Creek

The town is located on the west and south bank of the Melton Reservoir, which was completed in 1916 to supply the Werribee Irrigation District, and also functions as a recreation site with barbecue and picnic facilities. Exford Post Office opened on 1 September 1911 and closed in 1964. Exford is home to the Melbourne Runabout and Speedboat Club.

Parwan railway station
Parwan is a closed station located near the town of Bacchus Marsh, on the Ararat railway line in Victoria, Australia. The station platform was on the southern side of the line. Today Parwan is a crossing loop, permitting trains up to 969 metres long to cross. Opened soon after the line through it opened in 1886 as a crossing loop in the single track section, by 1890 Parwan had a platform, goods shed, a 20-lever interlocked signal box and a three road yard.

The school was transformed into Secondary College following Victorian education reforms that reorganised the structure of state schools from into colleges. The college was called Wilson Park Secondary College. The school is located on Wilson Road in Melton South next to the Melton Campus of Victoria University, Australia.

Baker House is a modernist house located in Bacchus Marsh, in the outskirts of Melbourne. The house, designed by Robin Boyd, was built between 1964 and 1966. Originally built as a family home for Dr. Michael Baker, the property is now used for private functions. The house, along with two other buildings on the site, was added to the Victorian Heritage Register in 2007, having remained relatively untouched since its construction.
